Public Lecture “War on Drugs Strategy” by the Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency to Students of 7 Universities in Banjarmasin
Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) received a visit from the Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency, Komjen Pol. Prof. Dr. Petrus Reinhard Golose on Wednesday (6/9/2023). The visit was in order to provide a public lecture to hundreds of students at the Lecture Theater General Building ULM Banjarmasin. This public lecture event was attended by students from 7 universities in Banjarmasin including Lambung Mangkurat University, UIN Antasari Banjarmasin, Muhammadiyah University Banjarmasin, NU University South Kalimantan, GKE Theological College, Banjarmasin State Polytechnic, and STIKES ISFI Banjarmasin.
The Governor of South Kalimantan Province, Sahbirin Noor, had the opportunity to attend this event to welcome and open a public lecture. In his remarks at a public lecture with the theme “War on Drugs Strategy” he said that drugs are a big challenge faced as an effect of very rapid global influences and development developments. “Drugs are a hidden form of colonialism that can destroy a nation,” said the Governor. One strategy to prevent the spread of drugs is by preparing superior quality human resources that are competitive, tough and skilled. This was confirmed by the Rector of ULM, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc.
“ULM, as a university in South Kalimantan, is currently committed to becoming one of the best PTNs in Indonesia, and improving the quality and competitiveness of its graduates.” said the Rector. Prof. Ahmad also said that as a commitment to preventing and eradicating drugs in the campus environment, ULM routinely holds urine tests in the process of admitting new students. This test was carried out to detect drug use among prospective new ULM students. “Drugs are our common enemy, we must destroy them at their roots so that our environment is drug-free.” said the Rector.
In the public lecture which took place at the ULM Auditorium building, the Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency provided material related to transnational crime, especially narcotics. The three-star general, who is also a professor in the field of police at STIK, gave an explanation starting from the types of narcotics, illicit trafficking and narcotics abuse, to various strategies carried out by BNN RI in an effort to save the nation from the threat of narcotics. “Students are often targeted in cases of narcotics abuse, based on the results of surveys conducted there is an increase in exposure to narcotics in the 15-24 year age range,” said the Head of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency.
For this reason, according to Prof. this public lecture. Dr. Petrus Reinhard Golose is one of the efforts that can be made to prevent and reduce the number of narcotics abuse among the younger generation, especially students.
The commitment to building a drug-free campus (Bersinar) was also demonstrated by all higher education leaders throughout South Kalimantan. This was proven by the signing of a declaration of commitment with universities throughout South Kalimantan to play an active role in efforts to prevent and eradicate the abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotics.
