ULM Welcomes 128 PMM 2023 Inbound Students.
Banjarmasin – University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) held a welcoming event for students participating in the inbound Freedom Student Exchange (PMM) on Monday (21/8/2023) at the General Building of ULM Banjarmasin. This year, ULM received 128 students from 69 public and private universities throughout Indonesia to carry out lectures at ULM in the 2023 PMM program.
The Baksa Kembang dance was a treat in welcoming the inbound students who would later be divided to attend lectures at the ULM Banjarmasin and ULM Banjarbaru campuses. The event then continued with the submission of a report from the ULM PMM Coordinator, Diani Ayu Pratiwi, M.Pd.
In her report, Diani said that the implementation of PMM 2023 at ULM had increased interest from student applicants. This year, as many as 3,635 students from 389 tertiary institutions applied to carry out PMM at ULM, until finally only 128 students from 69 tertiary institutions passed the selection and were accepted.
Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Iwan Aflanie, dr. Sp.F., M.Kes., said that the implementation of this PMM was one of the government’s strategies to overcome a common problem where the average Indonesian university graduate is only 10% absorbed in the world of work. Through the PMM program, students are expected to have broader insights and gain experience that can be used later, especially in the world of work. “We do not learn from experience, we learn from reflecting experience,” said Dr. Iwan.
ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc., also had the opportunity to attend to welcome the inbound students at the ULM General Building building. On this occasion, he advised students not to waste their opportunity in undergoing this PMM program. “Hopefully with this activity, our sense of diversity, diversity, and national insight will strengthen,” he said.
The Head of the Independent Learning-Independent Campus (MBKM) program of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Asri Aldilla Putri, S.Sos., M.Sc., through online meetings via the Zoom Meeting application also delivered several messages to inbound PMM students at ULM. “Always respect the customs prevailing in the current residence. Take care of the good name of ULM and your home university. Take care of your health and keep in touch with your parents and coordinators and share the good experiences you had while studying and doing activities,” said Asri.
Through PMM activities and the Nusantara Module, student participants are expected to be able to feel, learn and understand diversity, listen to inspiration, and reflect which later is expected to manifest in real contributions to society and the social life that students live.
