Reja Pahlevi, S.Pd., M.Pd: The Phenomenon of Bullying Must be A Concern

BANJARMASIN – The stabbing case of a student at SMAN 7 Banjarmasin against a classmate has received the attention of an education observer, Reja Pahlevi, S.Pd., M.Pd. The lecturer in Pancasila and Citizenship Education at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) admitted he was concerned. This is because the conflict is suspected to be the result of the perpetrators who are often bullied or abused by the victims. Moreover, the incident occurred at school. “Of course this problem is very heartbreaking,” he said, Monday (31/7/2023). He considered the phenomenon of bullying to be evenly distributed in every school. In fact, there is a growing tendency for schools to be labeled as favorites, aka those in urban areas.

“This is about the character or morals of a child. Character is formed from the family and school social environment,” he said. According to Reza, the phenomenon of bullying must be a concern. Even though every school has formed an anti-bullying team, he thinks the implementation on the ground has not gone as expected. The existence of this team does not guarantee that the phenomenon of bullying does not occur in the school environment. “Bullying is a worrying part of juvenile delinquency. So once again, this is about the moral formation of every child,” he stressed. On the other hand, Reza also could not justify stabbing the victim.

According to him, the condition was triggered by environmental factors and everyday interactions. “Besides the factor of heartache, this could be the influence of association or what one watches every day,” he said.
