Faculty of Medicine ULM Medical Study Program Raise Residents’ Awareness of Dealing with Garbage
BANJARMASIN – Lecturers and students of the Medical Study Program Undergraduate Program of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lambung Mangkurat carry out community service in the Village of Seberang Masjid RT 03, Banjarmasin City, Monday (31/7/2023). The theme for community service this time is efforts to reduce waste production. The women in the kelurahan got an understanding of how to recycle waste into useful goods. “Such as making tissue boxes and other objects made from used plastic bottles,” said the Head of the Community Service Team for the Medical Study Program, Dr. Farida Heriyani, MPH.
In fact, many TPS are overloaded alias over capacity. However, Farida assessed that this condition could not only be handled by the government. He said it needed the help of all parties to tackle the waste problem. “Awareness must grow from the community itself to manage waste and not throw it in random places,” he said. Take an example from data from the South Kalimantan Province Environmental Service as of August 1 2022, Banjarmasin occupies the top position in all districts/cities in the amount of waste generation.
By day, waste generation in Banjarmasin reaches 506.45 tons. The amount transported to the TPA is 136,510 tons per day. Because this is the problem, Banjarmasin has to be willing not to receive the Adipura award in 2022. In fact, Banjarmasin has won the Adipura Kirana award for three consecutive years from 2015 to 2017. Furthermore, in 2018-2019 it will receive the Adipura Kota Besar award.
