Gastin Gabriel Jangkang Brings ULM 4th Champion in the 2023 Pilmapres
Banjarmasin – Gastin Gabriel Jangkang, a student at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) won 1st place in the 2023 National Level Achievement Student Selection Competition (PILMAPRES). The results of the competition were announced on Wednesday (26/7/2023) at Hasanuddin University and broadcast via the National Achievement Center Youtube account.
One of Gastin’s creative ideas that led him to achieve this achievement included an idea that focused on Sustainable Development Goals 8 (SDGs 8) where his ideas aimed to increase inclusive and sustainable economic growth, productive and comprehensive employment opportunities and decent work for all. In his presentation, Gastin emphasized the importance of domestic products for the Indonesian economy by showing the multiplier effect of spending on local goods and services. The ‘Increased Use of Domestic Production’ (P3DN) program, which mandates the inclusion of local components in every product.
The idea he processed was based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) where in 2022 there would be an increase of more than 500% to IDR 4.21 billion in the value of Indonesia’s imports compared to last year. Gastin highlighted the potential benefits of this program in terms of creating new jobs, expanding businesses and driving economic growth. However, he also realized that there were challenges in the implementation of the program, especially in the education sector. To overcome these challenges Gastin proposed the P3DN Excelerator (Excellent Accelerator) plan, which aims to encourage a smoother and more effective implementation of the P3DN program.
“I presented short-term and long-term strategies, such as tax subsidies, improving communication channels, partnerships, a certain level of TKDN, safety nets for domestic producers, monitoring, evaluation, infrastructure development and research. I firmly believe that implementing the P3DN Excelerator (Excellent Accelerator) Plan will not be easy, but with the support and participation of the Indonesian people, we can contribute to realizing the government’s vision for a better economy.” Gastin said.
Previously, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Dr. Iwan Aflanie, dr., M.Kes., Sp.F., SH., expressed his optimism for Gastin’s chances when he qualified for the final round. Prior to becoming the winner of the Pilmapres, Gastin previously also won various achievements starting from the Medicine Olympiad, English Debate Champion, it is even known that Gastin has also just received a Patent Certificate from the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
Pilmapres or Student Achievement Election is a student competition held by the National Achievement Center under the auspices of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education every year. The aim is to give appreciation to the best students who are ready to become agents of change to build a better Indonesia. With the focus of participants being undergraduate and diploma program students.
