Rector Released The 2023 Batang Banyu River Expedition Culture and Civilization Trail Activity

Banjarmasin – Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc., saw off the departure of the 2023 Batang Banyu expedition participants on the banks of the Martapura river, precisely in front of the Swissbell Hotel Banjarmasin on Friday (01/09/2023). The Batang Banyu Expedition is a scientific journey where participants will also stop at several places in order to contribute to society and education.

This trip will pass through several areas such as Banjarmasin-Marabahan-Margasari-Nagara which is planned to last for 2 days from 1-2 September 2023. The Batang Banyu expedition will be attended by dozens of participants from academics, researchers, journalists, observers, environmental activists, students and community figures in South Kalimantan.

According to the Chairman of the Batang Banyu expedition committee, Prof. Dr. Hadin Muhjad, S.H., M.Hum., who is also the Chair of the ULM Senate, said that the mission of the Batang Banyu Expedition is a glimpse of river culture and civilization as a model for the development of the Batang Banyu region. Then, about community socio-economic development and capturing the potential and challenges of developing infrastructure on the banks of Batang Banyu to raising social and political awareness in the community.

In his speech, the Rector expressed his great appreciation and support for this activity, in which he also believed that the Batang Banyu expedition was an activity to look back at the history of the true civilization of the Banjar people and was very strategic to always be echoed in the future.

“If we talk about banyu stems then we are talking about the source of life.” he said.

This is of course based on the vital existence of the river which can also be said to be a source of life, the river is a means of infrastructure to build civilization for the people of South Kalimanatan, apart from being the main means of transportation at that time, the river was also a source of educational civilization for the people of South Kalimantan. The Chancellor believes that regional resilience depends on the cultural resilience of the region.

“Because in fact the main defense is a defense that understands the ins and outs of civilization, cultural development from time to time, which must be maintained by every child of the nation.” added the Rector.
