FKIP ULM Hosts the 2023 American Music Abroad Tour (AMA)
Banjarmasin – The Teaching and Education Faculty of Lambung Mangkurat University (FKIP ULM) hosted the 2023 American Music Abroad Workshop (AMA) on Friday (30/6/2023) in Hasan Bondan Hall FKIP ULM Banjarmasin.
The American Music Abroad Program (AMA) is a program organized by the Cultural Attache of the United States Embassy in the context of cultural exchange in the form of music workshops and collaborative music concerts. In this program, Ashley Campbell was appointed to tour around Indonesia, visiting Jakarta, Banjarmasin, Makassar and Ambon.
The tour aims to introduce Indonesian people to country music and broaden understanding of American culture. Ashley Campbell is a country music singer with a special specialty in playing the banjo. He has won a Grammy and earned an Oscar nomination for his single “Remembering,” which chronicles his father, musician Glen Campbell,’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
One of the focuses of this tour is to introduce country music to Indonesian people and to be proud of the uniqueness of this music. Country music has a long history in the United States and has become an important part of the country’s cultural identity. By sharing this music, it is hoped that there will be fruitful cultural exchanges between the two countries.
In addition to introducing country music, Ashley Campbell also pays attention to environmental issues and nature conservation. She puts forward messages about the importance of keeping the environment clean and preserving nature through his music and performances.
Ashley Campbell’s tour route covers the cities of Jakarta, Banjarmasin, Makassar, and Ambon. In Banjarmasin, on the first day she arrived in Banjarmasin, Ashley had the opportunity to meet ULM students, her performance was held at the Hasan Bondan FKIP ULM hall on Friday, June 30th 2023. The next day, Ashley Campbell was scheduled to meet students at SMAN 6 Banjarmasin, before the main performance Ashley Campbell at the University of Lambung Mangkurat (General Building) on July 1st 2023, from 15:30 to 17:00 WIB.
Ashley Campbell will also share stories about the history of country music. Country music has become an integral part of American life . From Nashville, a city that became a source of inspiration for country musicians, Ashley Campbell is the daughter of Glen Campbell, the famous American country musician, who passed away on August 8th, 2017 in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 81. He is buried in the Campbell family cemetery in Billstown, Arkansas.
With this tour, it is hoped that Indonesian people can experience the beauty and uniqueness of country music and broaden their understanding of American culture. This tour is also an opportunity for Ashley Campbell to share her stories and musical experiences with audiences in Indonesia, creating bonds and cross-cultural understanding between the two countries.
