ULM and Mass Media Sign MoU and PKS
To maximize the popularity and publication of the achievements of the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM), ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M,Si held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Cooperation Agreement (PKS) signing activity with several mass media in South Kalimantan.
The signing of the MoU and PKS was held in the 3rd floor Meeting Room of the Banjarmasin Rectorate Building on Friday (20/1/2023). The mass media that collaborated with ULM included Radar Banjarmasin, LKBN Antara South Kalimantan, and Banjarmasin Post.
The Rector said that this collaboration was made because the role of the mass media was very important for the publication of various programs carried out by ULM. In addition to improving the quality of human resources (HR) and leading programs, mass media publications related to ULM’s achievements are also considered important in building reputation.
“This is very influential for ULM’s big name to compete with other universities at the national level,” he said.
The Rector thinks that there is no big institution without media. For this reason, it is important for ULM to collaborate with several other local media in overseeing every step of the academic community so that it is known to the public. According to him, the media can also function as social control with constructive criticism that universities need in order to correct any weaknesses.
Regarding ULM’s target of being able to reach the top 20 nationally in the next few years, the Rector said he was optimistic with the resources he had. Currently, ULM has 1,400 lecturers and 462 of them have doctoral degrees (S3) and 72 professors. He pushed for a minimum of 30 percent of lecturers with doctoral degrees to reach functional professor positions as soon as possible.
Currently, ULM, which is accredited A, is in the process of transforming again from a Public Service Agency (BLU) university to a Legal Entity State University (PTN-BH). ULM is one of the 23 tertiary institutions encouraged to become PTN-BH by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) this year. PTN-BH is the highest level because it has full autonomy in managing finances and resources, including lecturers and education staff.
