Alya Amani, Melati Lovianti Utasari and Rachmi Nafissa Ramadhan Won Second Place in the National Student Debate Competition Organized by Trisakti University
Banjarmasin – University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) won second place in a national level student debate competition organized by Trisakti University in Jakarta. The ULM student representatives advanced to the final round after eliminating dozens of representative teams from the best universities in Indonesia. “The university provides good coaching and debriefing, but is also supported by the independence of its students to hone their skills,” said ULM Suci Utami Debate Team Supervisor Lecturer in Banjarmasin, Friday.
Utami, who is one of the lecturers in the ULM Law study program (Prodi), said that the struggle of his students was a source of pride because he was competing with the best universities in Indonesia. “Their ability has been formed with experience while being a student,”she said. The student debate team from ULM included Alya Amani from the Law Study Program, the Faculty of Law, Melati Lovianti Utasari from the Psychologist Study Program, the Faculty of Medicine, and Rachmi Nafissa Ramadhan from the Law Study Program, the Faculty of Law. He said students need to develop themselves independently, especially to broaden their horizons, it is not enough just on campus. According to him, students must take part in competitions to hone and measure the extent of the knowledge and skills they have acquired.
Meanwhile, Head of the Debate Team, Alya Amani, said that her team’s struggle was quite long, starting from the online preliminary round. Eight universities were selected to be called to take part in the face-to-face competition in Jakarta. She said that after being called to take part in the next stage in Jakarta, her team passed the top eight, top four, and finally the final round faced student representatives from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB). “We were chosen to represent ULM because we were selected in the university-level Indonesian student debate competition (KDMI) in 2022,” said Alya.
