The Rector Appoints the ULM Student Executive Board (BEM) for the 2023-2024 Period
Banjarmasin, Rector of the University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc inaugurated members of the ULM Student Executive Board (BEM) for the 2023-2024 period on Tuesday (07/03/2023). This event took place at the Lecture Theater General Building ULM Banjarmasin and was attended by the Vice Chancellor for Student and Alumni Affairs Dr. Muhamad Rusmin Nuryadin, SE., M.Sc, BEM Delegation Management from the previous term, Ormawa and Student Activity Units (UKM) within ULM and the new BEM Management who will be inaugurated today.
The Rector in his remarks said that BEM as a part of the University is an important and strategic element to be able to realize the achievement of ULM’s vision and mission and aspirations. Therefore, the Rector hopes that BEM members have managerial skills to be able to manage the entire arrangement of student activities at ULM in order to achieve the goals, hopes, vision and mission carried out by ULM.
“Are student organizations still relevant today? What are the benefits that can be taken when joining the organization? So it needs to be instilled from the start when student friends become official members of an organization, especially the Student Executive Board (BEM), they must also have clear goals.” Said the Rector.
The Rector also advised the ULM BEM management, that there are 3 things that must be considered, where these 3 things can make the organization no longer relevant today. First, if the organization is only an existential event then the organization is not worthy of being followed because it must be accompanied by essentials or benefits. Second, if the organization is only a venue for revenge from senior to junior. Third, when the organization lacks innovation or renewal. It is hoped that the inaugurated BEM administrators can realize and believe in ensuring that the duties and functions within the organization can run properly.
BEM ULM is a form of Unity in Diversity where ULM which consists of 11 Faculties and dozens of study programs can be united in one. With various backgrounds, administrators who come from various faculties can become a strength and potential for administrators to provide the widest possible benefit.
The Rector of ULM also hopes that BEM can contribute to running programs that can support the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (IKU). The Rector explained that the activities carried out by students had quite an effect on KPI achievement points from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Therefore the Chancellor advised that the preparation of work programs and Student Activity Units (UKM) at ULM should no longer be sporadic but must be based on a good planning system.
