Lambung Mangkurat University Students Successfully Cross Orchids
BANJARMASIN – A student at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) received appreciation from the Regional Management Council of the Indonesian Orchid Association of South Kalimantan Province (DPD PAI Kalsel). The reason is that a student named Philip Recardo Sugiawan has crossed orchids. For this reason, Philip Recardo Sugiawan received a New Cross Orchid International Registration Certificate from the DPD PAI South Kalimantan. Furthermore, it was handed over to ULM Rector Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri on campus, Kayutangi area, Banjarmasin. It is known that Philip Recardo Sugiawan is a second semester student of Mining Engineering at the ULM Faculty of Engineering.
“I named the Dendrobium ULM South Borneo Orchid. It was a cross from Den. Kesatria Nanggala x Den. Ratri Ayu,” explained Philip. This orchid is yellow, according to the distinctive color of ULM, which is the campus for the struggle of the people of South Kalimantan. Another character of this orchid, has a towering high stem. The philosophy, which is in line with ULM’s achievements, which are growing rapidly every year. Interestingly, Philip Recardo Sugiawan did not only dedicate this orchid cross not only to ULM, but also to Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri.
“As for the Rector, the orchid is registered under the name Dendrobium Ahmad Alim which is a cross from Indukan Den. Kim Bora x Den. Carl Ludwig Bundt. The name of this purple orchid is taken from the name of the Rector,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Arinda Dian Susanti, Head of DPD PAI South Kalimantan, really hopes that the preservation and concern for orchids can also be carried out by students and support from campuses and lecturers. “This is a good step taken by students, especially to preserve orchids in Kalimantan. South. We really appreciate the breakthrough made by Philip Recardo Sugiawan,” he praised. He hopes that in the future there will be other Philips who are also innovating to preserve orchids.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri expressed his gratitude for the work of Philip Recardo Sugiawan. “This is one more proof that our students are not inferior to students from other universities. I hope these two orchids will give a new color to Lambung Mangkurat University. Hopefully, the orchids can develop and later they can be multiplied. Hopefully, this will motivate the students of Lambung Mangkurat University to continue working, Haram Manyarah Waja to Kaputing,” he concluded.
