Kotabaru – The Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., M.Sc., visited several mangrove locations managed by the Berkah Wasaka Mandiri Cooperative (KBWM) in Kotabaru on Friday (February 27, 2026). The Rector and his entourage departed for Pulau Laut District, Tanjung Selayar, Kotabaru.

Several villages were visited to monitor mangrove management, including Tanjung Sungkai Village, Tanjung Pelayar Village, Oka-Oka Village, and Teluk Tamiang Village.

Upon arrival at the mangrove location in Tanjung Sungkai Village, the Rector and his entourage inspected the mangrove seedlings that had been prepared for planting. The mangrove seedlings were cultivated by ULM in collaboration with local villages to restore the mangrove area.

Since mid-2024, ULM, through the Berkah Wasaka Mandiri Cooperation, has obtained a Forest Utilization Business Permit (PBPH) for approximately 611 hectares of Production Forest in Kotabaru Regency. Through this permit, KBWM has the right to manage the mangrove forest area for carbon sequestration and storage, fisheries cultivation, and as a recreational or educational tourism destination.

“Through this mangrove cultivation, ULM is making a significant contribution to supporting the government’s green economy policy in the context of the SDGs and environmental sustainability for our nation’s future generations,” said the Rector during the visit.

Going forward, the ULM Rector announced plans to establish an Indonesian tropical mangrove laboratory in Kotabaru.

“We hope that this mangrove area we own will become a research center for various scientific experts, providing solutions to the various environmental issues facing the world today,” said the Rector.

The Rector also conveyed that ULM is committed to consistently maintaining environmental sustainability for the future of a more prosperous generation of the Indonesian nation in the future.
