ULM and KP2MI Agree to Establish Migrant Center: Creating Competent Migrant Workers from Campus
JAKARTA — Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) officially held a strategic meeting with the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the KP2MI Building in Jakarta. This meeting marked an important milestone in ULM’s institutional development efforts in the field of migrant worker preparation and protection through the establishment of a Migrant Center on campus.
During the meeting, Mukhtarudin, Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, stated that the Migrant Center program is an integral part of the preparation, training, and vocational education ecosystem for students. To date, the program has been successfully implemented in 12 universities across Indonesia.
The Minister emphasized that the Migrant Center functions as an integrated platform that includes information on overseas job vacancies, job mentoring, information on vocational institutions, and placement information for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). This program is a strategic response to the global challenge of providing a competent migrant workforce.
“Currently, there are projected to be 324,542 job vacancies abroad in various fields. The Migrant Center is one strategy to address the global challenge of providing competent migrant workers,” said the Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers.
Welcoming the KP2MI’s good intentions, ULM Rector Prof. Ahmad expressed the university’s full readiness to collaborate in this national program. The presence of the Migrant Center at ULM is expected to accelerate the absorption of university graduates into the international job market.
“ULM is ready to collaborate. With the Migrant Center, we hope to improve ULM’s position in accelerating workforce absorption,” stated ULM Rector Prof. Ahmad.
As a concrete follow-up to this audience, the ULM Migrant Center is planned to be completed within the next month. This step makes ULM part of a national network of universities committed to preparing a generation of skilled, empowered, and protected Indonesian migrant workers.
