Gastin Gabriel Jangkang Represents Indonesia and ULM in the “SCORE” Research Exchange Program in Tunisia
Banjarmasin – Another international achievement has been achieved by a student from Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM). Gastin Gabriel Jangkang, a student in the Medical Profession Program at the Faculty of Medicine, was selected as the official Indonesian delegate for the 2026 Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE) program organized by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). Gastin will undertake a month-long clinical research exchange program in Tunis, Tunisia, in October 2026.
Gastin was selected for this prestigious program, which facilitates bilateral medical research exchanges, after a series of national selections conducted by the Center for Indonesian Medical Student Activities (CIMSA) Indonesia. He will join a global network involving medical students from more than 90 countries. Gastin represents young South Kalimantan students with a mission to apply advanced medical research knowledge internationally.
“I feel very grateful and carry a great responsibility to represent Indonesia and ULM in Tunisia. My main focus in this exchange is to directly engage in clinical and epidemiological research projects, collaborating with international researchers to find solutions to global health challenges,” Gastin emphasized.
During his time at the academic institution under the auspices of Associa-Med Tunisia, Gastin will focus his studies on crucial research, including clinical comparisons of skin cancer, studies on the efficiency of new screening techniques for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, and the prevalence of cardiovascular disease. This participation is not without merit. Gastin has proven his research capabilities by holding a national patent for an innovative infection-preventing soap and earning the title of National Outstanding Student (Pilmapres) in 2023.
“The experience of research, data analysis, and the preparation of high-quality, international-scale scientific reports in Tunisia will not stop with me. My ultimate goal is to become an agent of change. I will bring the knowledge I gain home and disseminate it to improve the quality of human resources in health care in Indonesia, especially in South Kalimantan,” explained the young man, who is also the author of the book “Basic Human Body Anatomy.”
Gastin’s participation in the 2026 SCORE Research Exchange program is clear evidence that ULM students possess academic competitiveness and research capacity that is recognized globally. Lambung Mangkurat University remains committed to encouraging the development of the interests, talents, and potential of its academic community so that they can contribute and lead at the international level.
