Indonesian Capital – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a seedling planting and gathering with the Indonesian Capital Authority (OIKN) as a form of concrete support for the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). The event took place in the IKN area on Monday (January 26, 2026). This activity is part of ULM’s commitment to environmental contributions, human resource development, and community service.

The seedling planting was attended by ULM leadership, representatives of the IKN Authority, the academic community, and ULM alumni currently serving as State Civil Apparatus (ASN) within the IKN.

The Rector, represented by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc., in his remarks, stated that ULM brought hundreds of seedlings to be planted in the IKN area. This planting is both a symbol and a concrete step in ULM’s contribution to sustainable development in Kalimantan. “Today we are planting seedlings that are part of the plant species native to South Kalimantan. In addition to directly observing the progress of the development of the new capital city, ULM, as the oldest state university in South Kalimantan, wants to make a real contribution to the development of the new capital city,” said Dr. Azis.

He further explained that ULM’s contribution is not limited to environmental aspects, but also includes strengthening human resources, research, and community service. He also expressed his appreciation for the several ULM alumni who have successfully graduated and contributed as civil servants within the new capital city. “Of course, ULM continues to be required to play an active role in supporting the development of the new capital city, both through providing superior human resources, relevant research, and community service programs that have a direct impact,” he added.

The event was also attended by representatives of the New Capital City Authority, namely Lazuardi Nasution, MBA, Acting Deputy for Environment and Natural Resources; Drs. H. Alimuddin, M.Si., Deputy for Social, Cultural, and Community Empowerment; and Dr. Onesimus Patiung, S.Hut., M.P., Director of Forestry and Water Resources Utilization Development. Also in attendance were staff from the Directorate of Forestry and Water Resources Utilization Development and the Directorate of Environment and Disaster Management.

Through this activity, ULM emphasized its commitment as a higher education institution that plays a role not only in academics but also actively contributes to the national strategic agenda, particularly the development of a sustainable and environmentally conscious capital city.

The Rector, represented by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, Dr. Ir. Yusuf Azis, M.Sc., in his remarks, stated that ULM brought over 1,000 seedlings to be planted in the New Capital City area. This planting represents both a symbol and a concrete step in ULM’s contribution to sustainable development in Kalimantan. “Today we are planting seedlings representing some of the plant species native to South Kalimantan. In addition to directly observing the progress of the New Capital City’s development, ULM, as the oldest state university in South Kalimantan, wants to make a real contribution to its development,” said Dr. Azis.

He further stated that ULM’s contribution is not limited to environmental aspects, but also includes strengthening human resources, research, and community service. He also expressed his appreciation for several ULM alumni who have successfully graduated and contributed as civil servants within the new capital city. “ULM is certainly required to continue to play an active role in supporting the development of the new capital city, both through providing superior human resources, relevant research, and community service programs that have a direct impact,” he added.

Also present were staff from the Directorate of Forestry and Water Resources Utilization Development and the Directorate of Environment and Disaster Management.

Through this activity, ULM affirms its commitment as a higher education institution that not only plays a role in the academic field, but also actively contributes to the national strategic agenda, especially the development of a sustainable and environmentally friendly Indonesian capital city.
