Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a public lecture on Tuesday (December 9, 2025) at the ULM Banjarmasin General Building. The lecture was delivered by Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta, who was present along with his staff.

The event was also attended by the leadership of the Ukhuwah South Kalimantan Foundation and all Lambung Mangkurat University leaders, including ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad, S.E., M.Si., ULM Vice Rector II Dr. Ir. Arief R.M. Akbar, M.Si., IPU, and students from ULM.

ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad, S.E., M.Si., in his remarks expressed his appreciation for the presence of the Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs at ULM. According to him, this public lecture can serve as a forum to broaden the global national perspective of the entire ULM academic community.

This activity is also considered relevant for the academic world, especially for students, to directly understand Indonesian foreign policy and global challenges from the perspective of policymakers. He hopes this activity will foster global awareness, broaden national perspectives, and motivate ULM’s younger generation to actively contribute to maintaining world peace and order.

“There are more than 30,000 ULM students currently studying at ULM, coming from all corners of the country, and even some from neighboring countries,” said the Rector.

The diversity of ethnic backgrounds, cultures, and regions of origin of ULM students serves as a miniature version of Indonesia, representing the spirit of unity in diversity. Through the theme “Global Politics and Indonesia’s Role in World Peace,” students are not only encouraged to understand the dynamics of international relations theoretically, but also to reflect on their real-life roles as the nation’s young generation living and interacting in a multicultural environment. This diversity aligns with Indonesian diplomatic values, which uphold tolerance, dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful conflict resolution.

The public lecture was enthusiastically attended, marked by an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session between students and speakers. A wide range of questions were raised, ranging from the role of Indonesian diplomacy in the Southeast Asian region, Indonesia’s response to international conflicts, to opportunities for the younger generation to engage in diplomacy and international relations in the future.

Through this public lecture, Lambung Mangkurat University affirmed its commitment as a higher education institution to providing quality academic forums that not only strengthen academic knowledge but also equip students with a global understanding and values of peace as part of their responsible global citizenship.
