ULM Presents Prof. Agus Mulyana at Culture-Based Learning Mobility Seminar
BANJARMASIN – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening students’ character and national insight by holding a National Seminar on Culture-Based Learning Mobility on Thursday (October 2, 2025). Held in the Main Theater of the ULM Banjarmasin General Building, the event was attended by lecturers, educational staff, and students from across faculties.
This seminar is part of the Integrated Learning Mobility program initiated by ULM to broaden students’ academic perspectives while integrating local cultural values into the learning process across regions. The theme reflects ULM’s vision as a university that excels not only in research and innovation but also in the preservation and development of culture, particularly the culture of South Kalimantan.
The keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Agus Mulyana, M.Hum., Director of History and Museums at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, who stated that Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage is an invaluable living laboratory for education. According to him, student mobility should not only focus on the transfer of academic knowledge, but also serve as a means of cultural exchange and understanding.
“Culture-based learning mobility will create a young generation that is not only intellectually intelligent, but also rich in national insight and sensitive to local wisdom,” said Prof. Agus before hundreds of participants.
He also emphasized the importance of direct experience in learning other regional cultures as a means for students to learn tolerance, adaptation, and respect for differences—values ​​that are highly relevant in shaping future leaders.
The seminar was officially opened by Dr. Indira Fitriliyani, SP.si., M.Si., who in her remarks stated that ULM is committed to continuously promoting programs that integrate cultural richness into the teaching and learning process.
“This seminar is our concrete step to broaden horizons and inspire the birth of relevant curriculum innovations. Culture is not only a heritage, but also a living educational resource,” said Dr. Indira.
Professor of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, ULM, Prof. Dr. Prof. Ersis Warmansyah Abbas, BA., M.Pd., reinforced this idea by emphasizing that culture is a crucial element of national and state life, especially in today’s digital era.
“We are progressing, but we must still hold fast to our culture. Cultural identity is the foundation of the future,” said Prof. Ersis.
The seminar was interactive, especially during the discussion and question-and-answer sessions. Participants enthusiastically explored the concepts presented, demonstrating the academic community’s strong interest in cultural issues in higher education.
Through this seminar, ULM hopes to encourage universities throughout Indonesia to actively develop learning models that utilize culture as a source of inspiration and knowledge. Amidst globalization and digitalization, culture serves as an anchor of identity that strengthens the character of Indonesian students.
The seminar concluded with a shared reflection and collective documentation to mark ULM’s commitment to building an education rooted in cultural values and impacting the nation’s future.
