Deputy Governor Sends Off 93 Student Athletes to Strengthen South Kalimantan’s Contingent at POMNAS XIX 2025
Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) once again demonstrated its role in student sports by sending off 33 top athletes to strengthen the South Kalimantan Province contingent at the 19th National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) 2025. The send-off ceremony took place at the General Building of the Student Activity Center (SAC) at ULM Banjarmasin on Wednesday (September 10, 2025).
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor of South Kalimantan, university leaders in South Kalimantan, and the Chairperson of BAPOMI South Kalimantan, who is also the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni of ULM, Dr. Muhammad Rusmin Nuryadin, S.E., M.Sc.
This year’s South Kalimantan contingent consists of 160 participants: 93 athletes, 19 coaches, 6 sports officials, 13 sports administrators, 15 medical staff, 1 journalist, and 13 BAPOMI South Kalimantan officials. They will compete in 14 sports, including athletics, basketball, sand volleyball, badminton, chess, karate, archery, rock climbing, pencak silat, petanque, taekwondo, tennis, wushu, and pickleball (exhibition).
ULM is the university with the largest number of athletes, with 33 students, followed by the Islamic University of Kalimantan (UNIM) Muhammad Arsyad Al Banjari (23 athletes) and several other universities in South Kalimantan.
In his remarks, Dr. Muhammad Rusmin emphasized that POMNAS is not just a sporting event, but a platform to foster togetherness, friendship, and a spirit of nationalism among students.
“POMNAS is a momentum to measure, improve, and identify the potential for student sports achievement. We hope the South Kalimantan contingent can return to the top 10 nationally, building on its previous achievement of sixth place,” he said.
The Deputy Governor of South Kalimantan emphasized the importance of using sports as a medium to strengthen national unity.
“Sports is truly born from love and togetherness. Let’s make POMNAS a platform to strengthen our brotherhood as an Indonesian nation that upholds unity,” he said.
The South Kalimantan contingent will compete in the 19th POMNAS 2025, to be held in Central Java in September 2025.
As the university with the largest number of athletes, ULM plays a vital role in fostering the sporting spirit of South Kalimantan students. The presence of 33 athletes from various sports is clear evidence of ULM’s commitment to supporting the development of student interests, talents, and achievements at the national level.
With the full support of the academic community and the local government, the South Kalimantan contingent, dominated by ULM athletes, is expected to bring honor to the region and university on the national stage, while paving the way for international sporting achievements.
