MangrovePreneurs, ULM Student Team Wins National Champion with Rambai Flower Nectar Honey Innovation
BANJARBARU – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) once again achieved national success on Thursday (August 14, 2025). The MangrovePreneurs team won the 2025 Innovative Solution Ideas category at the Innovileague competition organized by the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment of the Republic of Indonesia. The competition attracted thousands of participants from various universities across Indonesia.
This achievement stemmed from research conducted in Mekarsari Village, Tatah Makmur District, Banjar Regency. Three ULM students—Rezky Amalia, Lutfhi Nor Anshori, and Muhammad Baihaqi—along with their supervisors studied the potential of the rambai mangrove tree (Sonneratia caseolaris), which grows abundantly in the area.
The research revealed that rambai flower nectar has high antioxidant content. This potential was then developed into an innovative bee cultivation program that produces rambai honey, utilizing local resources that have previously been overlooked.
This innovation received a positive response from the local community. Residents began experimenting with rambai bee cultivation, and even other villages became interested in developing similar businesses to boost their village economies.
The Rector of ULM, Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri, expressed his appreciation for this achievement. “We always fully support every student achievement. We hope the MangrovePreneurs team will continue to bring honor to ULM, Banua, and Indonesia,” he said.
The journey to victory was not easy. The MangrovePreneurs team had to compete with 482 teams from across Indonesia before finally advancing to the top eight and securing the national championship title.
Going forward, this rambai honey innovation is expected to be expanded to various regions across the country. ULM is committed to continuously encouraging student research and innovation as a tangible contribution to sustainable development and community empowerment.
