Connecting Campus and Industry: ULM and Indocement Strengthen Engineering Students’ Competence
Banjarbaru – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) through the Faculty of Engineering (FT) has established a strategic partnership with PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk in an activity entitled “Indocement Back to Campus”, which was held to commemorate National Education Day as well as the 50th Anniversary of PT Indocement.
The event was packaged in the format of a Workshop and Public Lecture on Industrial Insights and took place in Hall 1 of FT ULM Banjarbaru on Tuesday (3/6/2025). Approximately 150 students from various engineering study programs attended this activity. The activity was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering ULM, Prof. Iphan Fitrian Radam, S.T., M.T., accompanied by a number of vice deans and study program coordinators.
In his remarks, Prof. Iphan emphasized the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and the industrial sector. “Students need to be equipped with direct insight from the industrial world to be better prepared to face the ever-evolving challenges of work. Collaboration like this is a bridge between theory and real practice,” he said.
The general lecture material was delivered by two speakers from PT Indocement, Novhan Dwi Natanagara, S.T. and Bayu Prianto, S.T., who discussed the dynamics of industry in Indonesia, the latest innovations, and projections of future workforce needs. The speakers also invited students to continue to develop adaptive skills and critical thinking as provisions for entering the professional world.
The enthusiasm of the students was high throughout the activity. Not only did they absorb technical knowledge, they were also encouraged to understand the important role of the younger generation in supporting the growth of sustainable national industry.
Through this activity, ULM hopes to strengthen the synergy between higher education and the business world, create a contextual learning space, and at the same time expand the network of students with industry practitioners. “We hope that this collaboration can continue and bring real benefits, both for ULM students and the industrial world,” concluded Prof. Iphan.
With the spirit of collaboration that has been built, ULM continues to strive to produce engineering graduates who are not only academically competent, but also responsive to industrial dynamics and ready to contribute to national development.
