Raising the Topic of Online Gambling, Salma et al. Win Bronze in the 37th PIMNAS Event
Bringing the topic of online gambling, the team led by Nur Zahidatus Salma won a Bronze Medal in the Poster category at the 2024 National Scientific Week. The scientific work was entitled “Breaking the Vicious Circle of Online Gambling: Analysis of Motives, Impacts, and Solutions for Gambling Behavior in Gen Z Through the Perspective of Cognitive Dissonance Theory”.
Salma and 3 of her friends formed a team guided by lecturer Muhammad Abdan Shadiqi to participate in the Student Creativity Program (PKM) with the Social Humanities Research (RSH) scheme. The program managed by Belmawa under the Directorate General of Diktiristek was implemented from February to October 2024.
“We started preparations in December 2023, two months before the submission date on February 1, 2024,” said Salma in an interview.
The issue of online gambling in recent years has sounded worrying because more and more people are becoming online gamblers. As psychology students, Salma and her friends were interested in raising the topic in accordance with the field of study they are currently studying, namely Psychology.
“We feel it is important to deepen the aspect of the conflict of 2 elements of the mind (cognitive dissonance) behind the motives, impacts, and solutions offered in online gambling cases,” said Salma explaining.
The team led by Salma qualified as one of 5 (five) teams from ULM that qualified as finalists for the 37th Student Creativity Program (PKM). The achievements achieved by Salma et al. in this national event are certainly very proud achievements for ULM.
In the interview, Salma shared her impressions when she was a representative of ULM in the 37th PIMNAS.
“We received guidance with national reviewers from well-known Indonesian universities, received public speaking supplies, and spectacular experiences when meeting friends from universities throughout Indonesia,” said Salma.
Starting from preparing the proposal to becoming a finalist in PIMNAS, Salma received guidance and facilitation from ULM, from the study program, faculty, to university level. ULM provides guidance activities, routine monitoring and evaluation activities, to conducting simulations for the PKP2 stage. ULM also provides intensive camps and training to prepare for PIMNAS.
“Very grateful that ULM has given us extraordinary support, all ULM PKM representative teams, hopefully we can win medals again in PIMNAS next year,”
While conducting research, Salma admitted that she and her team faced several challenges, one of which was the difficulty in getting research participants because the topic was quite sensitive. However, she and her team were able to overcome the challenges faced well, especially when she and her teammates had their own college lives even though they were still in the same department and faculty.
Previously, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat managed to rank 6th as the university with the most funded proposals in Indonesia in PKM Dikti 2024. This achievement is something to be proud of, especially when ULM managed to send 5 teams as finalists to be able to participate in the 37th National Scientific Week (PIMNAS) held at Airlangga University, Surabaya in October 2024.
Hopefully, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat can continue to improve this achievement and become a university that is not only a place for lectures, but also encourages its students to continue to excel. ULM as a university in South Kalimantan continues to strive to facilitate and create a conducive and supportive learning atmosphere in order to produce intelligent and competitive graduates.
