ULM Returns to the Independent Higher Education Cluster in 2024 with 46 Universities

Banjarmasin, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) succeeded in maintaining the position of Independent Cluster Higher Education in the 2024 Higher Education Clusterization by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). The survival of ULM at the PTN Mandiri Cluster level is of course the result of efforts to improve the quality and quantity of academic performance, research and community service. This is reflected in the development of the ULM ranking from year to year in the higher education clustering carried out by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Higher education clustering is the grouping of universities based on research performance and community service as measured through SINTA. The following is the development of the ULM ranking from year to year:

In 2020, ULM was included in cluster 2 of the best universities in Indonesia, namely ranked 47th out of 2,136 active universities in the Higher Education Database, Ministry of Education and Culture. In 2023, ULM succeeded in entering the best independent higher education cluster in Indonesia, together with 40 other PTNs and PTS. In 2024, ULM will still remain in the independent cluster of the best universities in Indonesia, namely together with 46 other PTNs and PTS.

There are five clusters formed by the Ministry of Education and Culture, namely the Independent Cluster, Main Cluster, Intermediate Cluster, Primary Cluster and Fostered Cluster. The total number of clustered campuses is 1961, consisting of 47 campuses in the Mandiri Cluster, 194 campuses in the Main Cluster, 277 campuses in the Intermediate Cluster, 425 campuses in the Pratama Cluster, and 1018 campuses in the Assisted Cluster.

The Mandiri Cluster is the highest cluster that shows the best performance among other clusters. Campuses included in this cluster have full authority to regulate and develop research and service activities carried out by their lecturers and students. It is also hoped that the campus in this cluster can become an example and inspiration for campuses in other clusters.

This clustering is based on higher education performance data processed through the Integrated National Scientific Information System (SINTA) in the period 2020 to 2022. The data used includes seven criteria, namely author, affiliation, article, research, community service, intellectual property, and book. This data was then verified and validated by verifiers from the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM).

The Ministry of Education and Culture emphasized that this clustering is not a ranking, but rather a grouping that is dynamic and can change every year according to developments in higher education performance. This clustering is also intended to be the basis for preparing research road maps and strategic plans as well as determining authority in the field of research and community service.
