Prof. Suherman Gives PKM Success Tips to ULM Students
Banjarmasin — Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) has once again demonstrated its commitment to encouraging student achievement through the Student Creativity Program (PKM) through the Socialization and PKM Proposal Preparation Workshop for Students and Supervising Lecturers. This event was held in a hybrid manner, taking place at the Lecture Theater General Building ULM Banjarmasin and via Zoom Meeting on Monday, May 19, 2025.
The event presented Prof. Suherman, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., a lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA, Gadjah Mada University who is also a PKM Expert Team, National PKM Reviewer, and Chair of the 2023 PIMNAS Jury, as the main speaker.
In the opening remarks given by Dr. Muhammad Abdan Shadiqi, S.Psi., M.Si. as the head of the ULM Achievement Working Group said that ULM’s position, which is now in cluster 1 of national universities, presents new challenges. ULM students now have to compete with major universities in Indonesia in the PKM program.
“We have entered cluster 1, which means our competitors are tougher. Funding will also be more selective because of budget efficiency. So I emphasize three important things: first, make sure there are no administrative errors (zero mistakes); second, if there are errors, fix them immediately; and third, adhere to the timeline, don’t be late in uploading the proposal,” he said.
It was also emphasized that despite the increasing challenges, ULM had shown positive achievements in the previous year through various awards won. Hopefully, this year’s achievements can be even better.
Prof. Suherman in his presentation reviewed in depth the strategy for compiling a competitive PKM proposal, including the assessment aspects that are often obstacles for students. He shared technical and substantive tips so that proposals do not fail at the administrative stage and are able to compete at the national level.
“Understand the characteristics of each PKM scheme. Pay attention to the originality of the idea, its usefulness to the community, and the measurability of the output. Don’t forget, neat and logical writing is the key to making it easy for reviewers to understand your ideas,” explained Prof. Suherman.
This workshop also discussed the types of PKM, guidance strategies by supervising lecturers, and briefings on the selection process leading up to PIMNAS (National Student Scientific Week).
This activity was enthusiastically welcomed by dozens of lecturers and students from various faculties. With a hybrid format, participants from outside the campus or outside the city can also participate online, expanding the reach of the impact of this activity.
Through this workshop, it is hoped that both ULM students and supervising lecturers can be better prepared to face the increasingly competitive and tight PKM selection process, and are able to compile high-quality proposals according to national standards.
With the increasingly active socialization and training like this, Lambung Mangkurat University confirms its commitment to not only increase the number of PKM proposals, but also improve the quality and competitiveness of students at the national level.
