Banjarmasin — Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) continues to encourage the improvement of the quality of the Student Creativity Program (PKM) by holding a PKM Mentoring Strategy Workshop for Lecturers on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The activity, which was held online via Zoom Meeting, presented Dr. Med. dr. Indwiani Astuti, a PKM activist from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), as the main speaker.

This event was moderated by Utami Irawati, a lecturer in Chemistry, FMIPA ULM, and was officially opened by Dr. Muhammad Abdan Shadiqi, S.Psi., M.Si., as a representative of the Achievement Working Group of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat.

“PKM is a challenge and an achievement for ULM. We are already in cluster 1, and currently there are around 280 proposals out of a total of 310 proposals that have been submitted. This year we are focusing on pursuing quality, not just quantity, and encouraging all schemes and faculties to participate,” said Dr. Abdan in his speech.

In her presentation session, Dr. Indwiani Astuti comprehensively discussed the PKM proposal assessment techniques, effective mentoring strategies, and the importance of lecturers’ understanding in mentoring students from the early stages of proposal preparation to program implementation.

Dr. Indwiani also explained that there are 9 main characteristics of the PKM program, including:

  1. Competitive
  2. Quota based on PT ranking in terms of student activities (clusters)
  3. Theme is adjusted every year
  4. Offered every year
  5. Intended for undergraduate, diploma and applied undergraduate students
  6. Specific outputs of each program
  7. Implementation 3-4 months
  8. Organizer Belmawa Directorate
  9. Concluded with PIMNAS (National Student Scientific Week)

“PKM is not just a competition, but a creative learning ecosystem. This is a program that has survived amidst the many changing independent campus policies, because it has proven to provide great benefits for students, campuses, and the community,” explained Dr. Indwiani.

This workshop is part of ULM’s strategy to increase the active role of lecturers in assisting students to produce proposals that are not only innovative but also in accordance with national standards. In addition to providing a technical understanding of internal assessment at the university level, this activity also opens up space for discussion and reflection on mentoring practices so far.

This activity is increasingly relevant considering that in 2024, there were 41,875 PKM proposals submitted throughout Indonesia, with 4,594 creative ideas successfully obtaining funding and incentives, and more than 2.3 million students participating in PKM topics.

By holding this workshop, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat hopes to provide maximum contribution to strengthening scientific culture and innovation among students through close collaboration between supervising lecturers and supporting units.

Through quality and systematic mentoring, it is hoped that ULM can produce superior PKM works that not only pass the funding selection but are also able to speak a lot at the national level, especially in this year’s PIMNAS event.
