ULM Discusses Strategy to Accelerate IKU Achievement and Global Ranking Towards World Class University

Banjarmasin – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) held an activity “Presentation of IKU, UIGM, QS Ranking Analysis and UI Green Metric Socialization” for two days on May 14-15, 2025. This activity was held at the ULM Rectorate Building and the ULM Faculty of Agriculture by presenting the university leadership and all units supporting the achievement of higher education performance.

ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, M.Si, in his direction emphasized that this activity is a strategic step in increasing the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (IKU) and encouraging ULM’s acceleration towards a world-class university.

“If we look at it, in 2023 ULM’s position was still in the 2000s in the world. However, now it has penetrated the 1800s based on eduranking. That is not an easy achievement. Our target is to be ranked in the 1500s in the world by the end of 2025,” said the Rector.

The Rector added that ULM’s participation in UI Green Metric is one of the acceleration instruments towards WCU. Therefore, the achievement of IKU must be the concern of all work units.

Highlights of IKU Performance 2024

From the evaluation of the achievement of IKU 2024, several indicators show significant progress, but there are still some that require special attention:

  • IKU 1 (Graduates Get Decent Jobs): Can still be improved through optimization of tracer studies. Evaluation of data input and faculty involvement that has not been maximized is the focus of improvement.
  • IKU 2 (Students Get Experience Outside Campus): Achievement is still low (6.68%) far from the target of 30%. The Chancellor requested a total evaluation by WR 1, WD 1, the Academic Bureau, and faculty leaders. Internal policies such as inter-study program exchanges, student involvement in entrepreneurial activities, and conversion of MBKM activities to a minimum of 10 credits are expected to be implemented immediately.
  • IKU 3 (Lecturers Engaging in Off-Campus Activities): Increased to 54.62%. Strengthening is needed in reporting lecturer activities on the SISTER and PD DIKTI pages.
  • IKU 4 (Teaching Practitioners on Campus): Increased to 30.77%, but there are still two faculties that have not met the target, namely FISIP and FKIP.
  • IKU 5 (Lecturer Work Results Used by the Community): Although decreasing, it is still above the Rector’s PK target. Lecturer publications from research grants need to be encouraged more strongly.
  • IKU 6 (Study Programs Collaborating with Business and Industry Partners): Increased rapidly to 89%. The Chancellor emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and validation of partner quality.
  • IKU 7 (Collaborative and Participatory Class): Decreased to 47.63% from the previous year. Evaluation of the learning system needs to be carried out so that the quality of collaborative learning improves.
  • IKU 8 (International Standard Study Program): Has not increased since 2023. Encouragement is needed from superior study programs and more proactive rectorate policies.

The Rector also emphasized that programs and achievements must be in line with the spirit of an Impactful Campus as directed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

“ULM must be able to show its impact. We can strengthen partnerships with sectoral agencies such as the Regional Police, Islamic boarding schools, and the Regional Government. This is part of making ULM a model for cross-sector collaboration,” he said.

Through this activity, ULM shows its seriousness in developing a comprehensive performance improvement strategy. Improving the reporting system, adjusting internal policies, and strengthening cross-institutional collaboration are important parts in encouraging ULM to move up a class on the national and global stage.

With strong evaluation and synergy between units, ULM is optimistic that it will be able to achieve the target of being ranked in the top 1500 in the world and realizing a university that has a real impact on society, the nation, and the world.
