Karang Intan – The Nursing Study Program and the Faculty of Agriculture of ULM conducted a cross-disciplinary collaboration in community service, holding a training themed “Sociopreneur: Processing Organic Waste into Liquid Fertilizer” in Karang Intan District, South Kalimantan.

This cross-disciplinary collaboration is a manifestation of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) in strengthening its commitment through community service activities that not only emphasize environmental aspects, but also aim to empower the community economically.

The training was led by Ns. Hamka, S.Kep., M.Kep., RN, WOC(ET) as the person in charge, accompanied by Ns. Windy Yuliana Budianto, and S.Kep., M.Biomed. as supervising lecturers, and Nurhalisa Wibawa as the chief executive.

Before the activity began, Ns. Hamka gave a speech highlighting the importance of waste management as an issue that must be addressed together.

“Many people are not yet aware that organic waste if not managed properly can pollute the environment and threaten health. Through this training, we want to open up insights that waste also has economic potential,” he said.

He also added that this activity is part of the support for the Student Entrepreneurship Development Program (P2MW). The hope is that the skills instilled can be further developed as independent businesses by the community and students.

Meanwhile, Ns. Windy emphasized that this training is not just a momentary education, but a long-term investment for the Karang Intan community.

“We want the community to have skills that they can continue to use. With this knowledge, they can start micro businesses that have an impact and are sustainable,” she explained.

Karang Intan residents showed high enthusiasm in this activity. They actively participated, both in theory sessions and direct practice of processing organic waste into liquid fertilizer. The products from this training are expected to be the starting point for the development of environmentally friendly local micro businesses.

The chief executive, Nurhalisa Wibawa, said that this activity is expected to have a positive impact not only on the environment, but also on improving the skills of residents.

“We hope that this training will encourage the community to be more independent in managing waste and utilizing it as a business opportunity,” she said.

This activity also received support from the Nursing Coordinator of FKIK ULM, Dr. Herawati, M.Kep., who emphasized the importance of synergy between academics and the community in creating solutions to environmental problems.

Through this program, ULM emphasizes that the role of universities is not only limited to education, but is also able to become a driving force for social innovation that has a real impact on community welfare.
