ULM Encourages Acceleration Towards Sustainable Campus Through UI Green Metric Socialization
Banjarmasin – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) continues to strengthen its strategic steps in improving campus quality and World Class University (WCU) achievements through the UI Green Metric (UIGM) socialization agenda, which will take place on May 14-15, 2025 at the ULM Rectorate Building and the Faculty of Agriculture.
This activity is part of a series of presentations on performance achievements and university rankings by the ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, M.Si, who emphasized the importance of ULM’s participation in UIGM as one of the instruments for accelerating towards global rankings, such as the QS Ranking.
“ULM was once part of UI Green Metric in 2019, was inactive and became active again in 2024. The results were immediately significant, we were ranked 962nd in the world and 85th nationally. This shows our great potential, and can continue to increase if improvements are made,” said the Rector.
UI Green Metric is a world university ranking system that assesses commitment to campus management based on the environment and sustainability. Through this socialization, ULM affirms its commitment to building an environmentally friendly campus that is oriented towards sustainable development.
The Rector explained that improving UIGM’s ranking requires a structured strategy, including the preparation of technical guidelines, measurable programs, and budget support.
“We must prepare a detailed guide for UIGM. Each program and activity requires effort, and of course it is based on the budget. If it is not yet visible internally, then we can seek external funding,” he added.
The Rector also said that UIGM is not only about achieving numbers, but also about transforming the sustainable campus planning and management system. ULM is expected to be able to integrate sustainability principles into daily campus operations, starting from energy, water, waste, transportation management, to environmental education and research.
The Rector said that the UIGM ULM team had conducted a comprehensive analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities it has. The results of this analysis will be the basis for compiling ULM’s roadmap towards a green campus and accelerating entry into other international rankings such as the QS Ranking.
In addition, the increase in the research index through national platforms such as SINTA also shows a positive trend, with an improved position from the previous ranking of 45 to 47.
“All of this is part of one unit. UIGM’s efforts to improve will have an impact on the QS and Edurank rankings, because they are related to the quality of institutions and global visibility,” said the Rector.
Through this activity, ULM shows its commitment to transforming into a sustainable impactful campus, not only in terms of academics and research, but also in environmental and social governance.
ULM’s participation in UIGM is not merely to achieve ranking, but also part of the university’s grand vision in forming an environmentally conscious and future-oriented higher education ecosystem.
With the collective work of the entire academic community and cross-sector support, ULM is optimistic that it can improve UIGM’s ranking and strengthen its position in the national and international arena as a leading green campus from Kalimantan.
