House of Representatives Commission X Visits, ULM Conveys Transparent Student Admissions Practices and Progressive Policies

Banjarmasin – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fair and transparent access to higher education through the presence of the ULM Rector on a specific working visit by House of Representatives Commission X. The meeting discussed the new student admissions system (SPMB) and higher education operational cost standards (SSBOPT), held at the Banjarmasin State Polytechnic on Friday (April 10, 2026).

The House of Representatives Commission X working visit was also attended by representatives from the Mayor of Banjarmasin, the Head of the LLDikti Region XI Kalimantan, and leaders of various universities in South Kalimantan, including Lambung Mangkurat University, UIN Antasari Banjarmasin, Muhammadiyah University of Banjarmasin, Achmad Yani University, Hasnur Polytechnic, and Tanah Laut State Polytechnic.

In the forum, each university leader was given the opportunity to share input and experiences regarding the implementation of SPMB and higher education financing policies.

Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si., emphasized that ULM adheres to the principles of transparency and accountability in all new student admissions processes. He explained that for national pathways such as the SNBP and SNBT, ULM is committed to following all selection results without intervention.

“We ensure the entire process is clean and transparent. We do not change the selection results determined by the central committee, as a form of our commitment to maintaining the integrity of the new student admissions system,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, for the independent pathway, ULM has adopted a progressive policy by eliminating the Institutional Development Fee (IPI) to open wider access for all levels of society.

“We do not impose a development fee on the independent pathway. Our principle is simple: we must ensure that no Indonesian child with academic ability is prevented from attending college simply because of financial constraints,” said the Rector.

He added that this policy was based on previous experience, where hundreds of prospective students were unable to continue their studies due to financial constraints. Since then, ULM has actively collaborated with local governments and partners to ensure the continuity of students’ studies.

Through this forum, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat demonstrated its role as a higher education institution that focuses not only on academic quality but also upholds the principles of social justice in education. This commitment also strengthens ULM’s position as an impactful campus that makes a significant contribution to equitable access to higher education in Indonesia.
