ULM Holds UI GreenMetric Perception Alignment to Strengthen Commitment to a Sustainable Campus
Banjarmasin — Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable campus management through participation in the UI GreenMetric program. Therefore, the “UI GreenMetric Indicator Perception Alignment (UIGM)” was held at the ULM Banjarbaru Rectorate on Thursday (February 5, 2026) and the ULM Banjarmasin Rectorate on Friday (February 6, 2026) as a strategic step to improve campus performance in environmental aspects while supporting the green and environmentally friendly campus program.
This activity is part of ULM’s efforts to develop a more targeted strategy to improve the score and implementation of UI GreenMetric, a global university ranking system that assesses higher education institutions’ commitment to environmental sustainability. This perception alignment involved various work units within the university, from faculties and institutions to academic support units (UPA).
The UI GreenMetric Coordinator at Lambung Mangkurat University, Prof. Dr. In her remarks, Prof. Atiek Winarti, M.Pd., M.Sc., explained that this activity was a follow-up to a similar event held the previous year, with several strategic adjustments. She emphasized the significant change in the UI GreenMetric data collection deadline, which has been moved up from October to June.
“This deadline change requires us to move more quickly. Therefore, this year, ULM’s strategy is no longer solely about pursuing rankings, but rather focusing on improving scores by identifying activities that have a high impact but are achievable with realistic efforts,” said Prof. Atiek.
She also explained that this perception-alignment activity aims to unify the views of all units at ULM regarding concrete steps that can be taken in the next five months, based on the results of the UI GreenMetric questionnaire analysis. To support this, ULM has compiled a UI GreenMetric guidebook that outlines policy directions, shared goals, and measurable short-term targets.
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is a ranking system launched by the University of Indonesia in 2010, with six main assessment indicators: infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water use, environmentally friendly transportation, and education and research. These rankings not only provide international recognition but also serve as a platform for sharing best practices in campus environmental management.
Through this initiative, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (UI) affirms its role as a higher education institution that focuses not only on academic achievement but also on its commitment to being an agent of change in realizing a sustainable campus. This strategic step is expected to strengthen ULM’s reputation nationally and internationally, while simultaneously making a tangible contribution to environmental conservation and climate change mitigation efforts.
