Integrated Laboratory Achieves ISO 45001:2018 Certification, Rector Appreciates and Encourages Work Units to Implement Quality Standards
Banjarbaru – In commemoration of National Occupational Health and Safety Month, the Integrated Laboratory Unit (UPA) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme “OHS Implementation as a Strategic Instrument to Accelerate International Accreditation at Lambung Mangkurat University” on Tuesday (February 3, 2026), held in the ULM Integrated Laboratory meeting room.
The event was attended by ULM Rector Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Sc.; General Manager of the CBQA Global certification agency Ir. S. Waniwatining Astuti, M.T.I; resource person Prof. Dr. Indri Hapsari Susilowati, S.K.M., M.K.K.K., Dean of the Faculty of Public Health at the University of Indonesia; Vice Rectors; and all work unit leaders within ULM.
The event also saw the symbolic presentation of the ISO 45001:2018 certificate from the CBQA certification body to the Rector of ULM. This certification represents a significant achievement for the Integrated Laboratory Unit (UPA), supporting compliance with international quality standards.
The Head of the Integrated Laboratory Unit, Dr. rer.nat. Liling Triyasmono, M.Sc., Apt., stated in his remarks that the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (SMK3) is part of the university leadership’s commitment to making ULM a university of international standards. He emphasized that this success is expected to be a shared commitment from all work units within ULM. “If we work on this together, ladies and gentlemen, I believe we can reach a level where all work units at the University can be certified to 45001:2018,” said Dr. Liling.
The Integrated Laboratory Unit (UPA) also emphasized its role as a supporting unit, ready to provide full support to all work units, provided they receive thorough information and planning from the outset. “Our role is to be a supporting unit ready to serve, provided we are also provided with advance information,” he added.
The Rector also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the speakers and the entire Integrated Laboratory UPA team for their support in achieving ISO certification. He stated that accreditation and certification are part of the quality assurance audit process that must be continuously developed within the university. “The achievement of ISO certification by the Integrated Laboratory is expected to motivate other work units at ULM to prioritize quality systems. We need to set targets, for example, how many work units will have achieved ISO certification next year,” the Rector stated.
The Rector added that the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 can serve as a form of risk mitigation in every activity carried out within the university, both academic and non-academic. With this standard, potential hazards can be identified early, allowing for systematic prevention of workplace accidents and health problems. “Every activity at ULM will be mapped for risks encountered during its implementation,” the Rector stated.
The Rector also stated that the policies underlying the system’s implementation already exist, so the main challenge is ensuring optimal implementation. A comprehensive control process is carried out, accompanied by continuous evaluation of implementation in the field to ensure that established standards are truly implemented.
