Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Applauds ULM’s No-IPI Policy
Banjarbaru (Monday, January 12, 2026) – The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for Lambung Mangkurat University’s (ULM) policy of not implementing an Institutional Development Fee (IPI) for new student admissions. He conveyed this during a meeting held at the Faculty of Agriculture Campus of Lambung Mangkurat University in Banjarbaru, with the Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University, Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si., along with the Vice Rectors, Deans, Heads of Institutions, and ULM academics.
Prof. Brian Yuliarto expressed this appreciation on the sidelines of the visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H. Prabowo Subianto, to South Kalimantan for a state agenda and to review strategic development, including the higher education sector and strengthening regional research and innovation. The no-IPI policy at ULM has been in place for four years under the leadership of Prof. Ahmad Alim Bachri.
According to Prof. Brian Yuliarto, this step represents a significant breakthrough worthy of national emulation, demonstrating ULM’s commitment to being an Impactful Campus, prioritizing access to higher education without additional burdens for new students.
On the occasion, Prof. Brian Yuliarto also emphasized the importance of widely publicizing the various innovative breakthroughs achieved by ULM, so that they are known to the public and prospective students. He hopes this progressive policy will inspire other universities in Indonesia to provide inclusive and equitable education.
The Minister of Education and Technology’s directive also aligns with the national agenda of ULM, which is being implemented through the State Universities Consortium in Eastern Indonesia (KPTN KTI), which involves 45 state universities. This consortium has established a strategic partnership with Elsevier to provide unlimited access to ScienceDirect journals, enabling ULM academics, along with other universities in the eastern region, to access global knowledge resources in an inclusive and equitable manner.
This initiative is expected to improve research quality, strengthen academic collaboration, and deliver innovative breakthroughs that will have a real impact on sustainable development in Indonesia.
