FKIK ULM Hosts AIPKI Region IV Deans’ Forum, Strengthening Synergy Between Medical and Specialist Education
Banjarmasin – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) hosted the 2025 Association of Indonesian Medical Education Institutions (AIPKI) Region IV Deans’ Forum. The event took place on December 5–6, 2025, at the Swiss-Belhotel Borneo Banjarmasin Ballroom, and was attended by representatives from 28 medical faculties across Region IV. The forum’s theme was “Synergy Between Medical Faculties and Teaching Hospitals to Optimize Education and Empower Doctors and Specialists.”
In his opening remarks, the Dean of FKIK ULM and Chair of AIPKI Region IV, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Pd., FISPH., FISCM, emphasized the importance of this meeting in strengthening collaboration between medical education institutions.
“The AIPKI Deans’ Forum is a strategic platform for aligning visions and missions and strengthening institutional networks for the advancement of medical education,” he said.
The first day’s series of events began with an opening ceremony, followed by remarks from the Chairman of the Central AIPKI, Prof. Dr. dr. Wisnu Barlianto, M.Si.Med., Sp.A(K), the Rector of ULM, Prof. Dr. Ahmad, S.E., M.Si., and the Regional Secretary of South Kalimantan Province, H. Muhammad Syarifuddin, M.Pd., representing the Provincial Government. In his remarks, the Rector of ULM expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in ULM as host.
“We welcome this forum because it is an important space to strengthen the quality of medical education in Indonesia,” he said.
Following the inauguration of the AIPKI Region IV Management by the Chairman of the Central AIPKI, the forum moved on to a scientific session featuring three national speakers: Prof. Dr. Harmani Kalim, Sp.JP(K), MPH, FIHA; Dr. Supriyanto Dharmoredjo, Sp.B, FINACS, M.Kes; and Dr. Efmansyah Iken Lubis, M.Biomed. The discussion was intense, focusing on synchronizing specialist medical education policies, the role of the college and teaching hospitals, and strategies to improve the passing rate of medical competency exams.
“Strong synergy between faculties and teaching hospitals is key to improving medical competency,” emphasized one of the speakers in the scientific session.
The first day concluded with an organizational meeting and a social gathering that strengthened interfaculty relations. On the second day, the Faculty of Medicine and Medicine (FKIK) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (ULM) invited delegates on a city tour to the Floating Market and enjoyed the culinary specialty of Soto Banjar Bang Amat. This event was ULM’s effort to introduce the culture and uniqueness of Banjarmasin to all participants.
“Through this city tour, we want our guests to experience the richness of Banua culture,” said the local committee.
By hosting this forum, ULM demonstrated its commitment to strengthening networks, improving the quality of medical education, and expanding its contribution to the development of healthcare professionals in Indonesia. AIPKI Region IV hopes that the forum’s recommendations can be implemented to strengthen the medical and specialist education system in the future.
