Nazwa Umairoh: Dancing as a Way to Preserve Arts and Culture

Banjarmasin – The interests and talents of students at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) continue to grow and develop alongside their academic journey. One example is Nazwa Umairoh, a student in the Performing Arts Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at ULM, who has consistently pursued dance since an early age.

Nazwa, now 20 years old, has been familiar with the stage, music, and dance movements since childhood. This interest began with her love of dancing and singing, which she then honed through various studios and extracurricular activities, from elementary school through high school. Her choice to continue her studies at ULM in the performing arts was a logical step to develop this long-growing talent.

According to the December 2, 2025, edition of Bpost, Nazwa’s love for dance also has family roots. She revealed that her dancing talent was inherited from her grandfather, who was a renowned dancer. For Nazwa, dancing is not just a hobby, but a way to preserve and continue the artistic values that have been alive in her family.

In addition to actively attending lectures, Nazwa also shares her knowledge by teaching extracurricular dance activities for children. Her role as a teacher is part of her aspiration to work in education as an arts teacher. Amidst her academic and teaching activities, she frequently accepts offers to perform at various events, both as a dancer and singer in creative spaces like cafes.

For Nazwa, taking on these various roles has provided valuable experience. Art, she believes, is not just about body movement, but also about meeting people and building networks. Every opportunity to perform and teach always brings new stories and lessons.

Nazwa Umairoh’s work reflects the commitment of Lambung Mangkurat University students to developing their interests, talents, and skills in the arts. Through formal education and field experience, ULM continues to be a growing space for creative young people ready to preserve and develop regional arts and culture.
