Indonesian Minister of Environment Attends FUCO 2025 ULM, Encourages Translation of Climate Commitments into Concrete Action
Banjarbaru – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening national environmental and forestry issues by hosting the Forestry Update Course (FUCO) 2025, held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the ULM Banjarbaru Auditorium. The public lecture, themed “Indonesia After COP30 Belem Brasil: Turning Climate Commitments into Climate Action,” featured the Indonesian Minister of Environment, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, S.Hut., M.P., as the keynote speaker.
Moderated by Dr. Muhammad Ahsar K., S.Si., M.Sc., a lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) ULM, the event was attended by lecturers and students from the Faculty of Forestry from across Indonesia, making FUCO one of the largest academic forums in the national forestry sector.
The Chairman of FOReTIKA (Forum of Forestry Higher Education Institution Leaders), Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., in his remarks expressed his appreciation to ULM for once again initiating this strategic forum. He stated that environmental and forestry issues are interrelated and are the responsibility of all parties, especially universities.
“In universities, we must be pioneers in environmental issues, from reducing plastic waste to addressing global issues. Environmental and forestry issues are closely related,” he said.
ULM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ahmad, in his remarks, which officially opened the event, emphasized that universities play a vital role in preparing human resources to meet the challenges of sustainable development.
“The human resources needed for sustainable development rely, among others, on forestry students studying throughout Indonesia. The future of the nation, towards Indonesia Emas 2045, lies in the hands of young scientists in the forestry field,” he said.
The Rector also expressed his gratitude for having the Environmental Science Undergraduate and Master’s Programs, which play a vital role in strengthening ecological literacy and the academic capacity of the younger generation.
“We hope this public lecture will broaden our collective perspectives so that the younger generation is better prepared to build Indonesia based on the principles of the SDGs. Indonesia for the world, Kalimantan for Indonesia—we are in a very strategic location,” he added.
The Indonesian Minister of Environment, Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, had the opportunity to present the direction of Indonesia’s environmental policy after COP30 in Brazil. His presence provided an important momentum to strengthen the translation of university knowledge into concrete actions on the ground.
The moderator stated that his appointment as minister was a testament to his capacity and contribution to national environmental management.
As host, ULM not only provides a space for academic discussion but also strengthens its position as a center for the development of forestry and environmental science in Kalimantan and Indonesia. Through FUCO 2025, ULM encourages national collaboration and emphasizes its strategic role in overseeing the implementation of climate commitments into concrete actions.
This activity is expected to produce a formulation of ideas that can strengthen the contribution of higher education institutions in developing a sustainable environment in the future.
