Banjarbaru – The Integrated Laboratory and the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), successfully held a Workshop on Instrumental and Non-Instrumental Pharmacy on Wednesday (October 29, 2025).

The workshop was held at the Integrated Laboratory and Einstein Hall of FMIPA ULM to improve the academic capacity and technical skills of lecturers, students, and researchers in the fields of pharmacy and applied science.

The workshop was divided into two sessions: the Instrumental Workshop and the Non-Instrumental Workshop, each featuring expert speakers from academia and industry.

Instrument Workshop

The instrument workshop was officially opened by the Head of the ULM Integrated Laboratory, Dr. rer. nat. apt. Liling Triyasmono, M.Sc. In his remarks, he stated that this activity demonstrates ULM’s commitment to supporting the mastery of cutting-edge analytical technology in the pharmaceutical and chemical fields.

“Through this activity, we want to ensure that the academic community has the practical skills to use sophisticated instruments that support modern pharmaceutical research,” said Dr. Liling.

The instrument workshop featured keynote speaker Prof. Agung Nugroho, S.T.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., who presented the working principles and applications of pharmaceutical analytical instruments. Participants also received direct explanations from representatives from several leading laboratory instrument suppliers, including:

  • PT. Wira Lab for ASE and HPLC equipment,
  • Novatech for FTIR,
  • PT. Ascentia for XRF and XRD,
  • PT. Dynatech Internasional for SEM, and
  • Elokarsa for ELISA.

The activity continued with hands-on laboratory practice, where participants operated the equipment and analyzed real samples under the guidance of experienced technicians and instructors.

Non-Instrument Workshop

Meanwhile, the Non-Instrument Workshop was opened by the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (ULM), Dr. Totok Wiyanto, M.Sc., who emphasized the importance of strengthening non-technical competencies in the field of pharmacy, particularly those related to accreditation and evidence-based scientific studies.

“Strengthening research capacity is not only about mastering tools, but also methodological skills and academic quality management that meets international standards,” said Dr. Totok.

Two major themes were discussed in the non-instrument workshop:

  1. International PTF Accreditation: Improving Standards and Global Competitiveness, presented by Prof. Dr. apt. Daryono Hadi Tjahjono, M.Sc.Eng., who emphasized the importance of quality management in pharmacy higher education to align with international standards and impact graduate competitiveness.
  2. Clinical – Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM): Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis, presented by two expert speakers:
    • Dr. apt. Noor Cahaya, M.Sc., presented the topic “Introduction and Stages of Systematic Reviews,” covering basic concepts, PICO question formulation, literature search strategies, the use of tools such as Rayyan, and study quality assessment using RoB2.
    • Dr. apt. Dewi Susanti Atmaja, M.Farm-Klin., presented the topic “Introduction and Implementation of Meta-Analysis,” covering the basic concepts of fixed and random effects, statistical analysis (forest plots, funnel plots), and the use of RevMan and GRADEpro according to the PRISMA Guidelines.

The full-day event received high enthusiasm from participants from various pharmacy study programs throughout Indonesia. Participants gained relevant practical experience to support research and scientific publications.

In closing, the committee emphasized that similar activities will continue to be developed periodically in the form of advanced training, research collaborations, and strengthening industry networks to encourage innovation in the pharmaceutical and health sciences fields.
