Banjarbaru – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM)’s commitment to encouraging student innovation and tangible contributions to sustainable development has once again been recognized. In commemoration of Youth Pledge Day, ULM students received an award from the South Kalimantan Regional Police for their innovation in creating environmentally friendly organic fertilizer that supports the President’s Goal of Food Security program.

The award was presented by South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan at an event titled “Synergy between Banua Youth and the South Kalimantan Regional Police in Supporting the Goal of Food Security in the Context of Public Order and Security,” held at the South Kalimantan Regional Police Auditorium, Banjarbaru, on Tuesday (October 28, 2025).

ULM Student, Rinto Hadi Nata from the Soil Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture,, was the representative recipient of the award. Together with a team of 10 students, they have been collaborating with ULM lecturers to develop an innovative organic fertilizer over the past month.

“We designed this innovation to help restore peatland function through the use of organic fertilizer. This also supports the corn planting program initiated by the Regional Police Chief,” said Rinto.

Rinto also hopes that future organic fertilizer research and development can involve more students from across study programs to achieve optimal and sustainable results.

Meanwhile, South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha emphasized that this activity demonstrates the synergy between Pemuda Banua and the South Kalimantan Regional Police to strengthen food security as a crucial pillar towards the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045.

“Food security is a strategic strength of the nation. Pentahelix collaboration involving the National Police, the government, academics such as ULM, business actors, youth, communities, and the media is key to the success of this program,” he said.

The Chief of Police also stated that the South Kalimantan Regional Police continue to develop various innovations in the agricultural sector, such as corn cultivation on land formerly prone to forest and land fires, hydroponic systems, and freshwater fish biofloc, all of which have received support from academics, including the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (ULM).

ULM’s involvement in this program demonstrates the active role of universities as a vital part of the regional collaboration ecosystem. Through applied research, mentoring, and student involvement in innovative projects, ULM continues to strengthen its position as a strategic partner for the government and community in realizing sustainable and environmentally resilient development.

The event was also attended by various important figures, including the Commander of the 101/Antasari Military Command, the Commander of the Syamsudin Noor Air Force Base, the Head of the South Kalimantan Intelligence Agency (Kabinda), the Head of the South Kalimantan National Narcotics Agency (BNNP), the Deputy Chief of the South Kalimantan Regional Police, and representatives from youth and student organizations throughout South Kalimantan—reflecting the spirit of cross-sectoral collaboration for the advancement of the region and the nation.
