Exploring Oral Literature in the Digital Era, JPBSI FKIP ULM Holds National Seminar
The Department of Indonesian Language and Literature Education (JPBSI) of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), in collaboration with the Master’s Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education and the Doctoral Program in Indonesian Language Education, will once again hold their annual non-lecture academic activity, the National Seminar on Language and Literature Education.
The event, scheduled for Friday, October 17, will be themed “Oral Literature in the Digital Era and Its Implications for Indonesian Language and Literature Learning.” The national seminar will be held via a blended Zoom virtual conference and in-person sessions in the Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) ULM from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. WITA (Central Indonesian Time).
The seminar will feature several speakers, including Alfian S. Siagian, Oral Tradition Researcher at the University of Indonesia; Izzah Zen Syukri, a lecturer in the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (PBSI) at Sriwijaya University’s Faculty of Teacher Training and Education; Armiati Rasyid, Head of the South Kalimantan Language Center (Kalsel), and Sainul Hermawan, a lecturer at the JPBSI FKIP ULM and also the chair of the organizing committee. The speakers will each present various topics related to oral literature.
According to Sainul Hermawan, orality in this era is an interesting topic to discuss because it is inherent in today’s digital technology and communication.
“Personal digital orality is a counterbalance to the dominance of imitative reason in learning. How can this happen? Let’s join in this exciting discussion,” he said enthusiastically.
In addition to digital orality, this seminar will also feature speakers discussing the revitalization of mother tongues in relation to 21st-century orality, as well as orality and collective memory.
At this national seminar, the committee also invited participants to submit papers for publication as academic outputs in national journals and book chapters. Presenters were invited to write on the subthemes (1) digitalization and preservation of oral literature; (2) contemporary digital oral literature; (3) digital oral literature in improving language skills; and other relevant subthemes.
