ULM Alumni’s Contribution to the National Stage: Mukhtarudin Officially Appointed Minister of PPMI
JAKARTA – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) should be proud. One of its alumni, Drs. H. Mukhtarudin, was officially inaugurated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PPMI) or the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI), during a cabinet reshuffle held at the State Palace on Monday (September 8, 2025).
The ULM Rectorate, via the university’s official Instagram account, immediately expressed its congratulations and best wishes for Mukhtarudin’s achievement. In the post, which included a photo of Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad, S.E., M.Sc., along with the vice rectors, stated that Mukhtarudin is a 1985 alumnus of the Public Administration Department of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM).
Mukhtarudin was born in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, on September 6, 1964. He completed his elementary and high school education in his hometown before continuing his studies at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (ULM), Banjarmasin. He graduated in 1988 and began his career as a lecturer at STIE Nusantara (now Antakusuma University) and served as a civil servant in West Kotawaringin Regency (1990–2002).
His political career began in 2004 when he joined the Golkar Party. Thanks to his organizational skills, Mukhtarudin held various important positions in the party, from the regional to the central levels. His political career led him to become a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2019–2024 term, and he was re-elected for the 2024–2029 term from the Central Kalimantan electoral district with over 92,000 votes. Most recently, he served on Commission XII of the DPR RI, which oversees energy, the environment, investment, and downstreaming.
Mukhtarudin’s inauguration took place alongside four other officials who also received new appointments from President Prabowo. In addition to him, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa replaced Sri Mulyani as Minister of Finance, Ferry Juliantono as Minister of Cooperatives, and Irfan Yusuf as Minister of Hajj and Umrah. Meanwhile, the positions of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs and Minister of Youth and Sports remain vacant.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi explained that the President’s sudden reshuffle was based on an evaluation and the cabinet’s needs.
“Based on various developments and ongoing evaluations, the President has decided to make changes to the composition of the Red and White Cabinet in several ministerial positions,” Prasetyo stated.
For ULM, Mukhtarudin’s appointment as minister is a clear testament to its alumni’s contribution to the national stage. His presence in the cabinet not only brings pride to his alma mater but also serves as an inspiration to students and the younger generation of Kalimantan.
