ULM Obtains IELTS Test License, Strengthening Paths to Become a World-Class University
BANJARBARU – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) has again achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to internationalize education. Through its Language Academic Support Unit (UPA), ULM is now officially licensed to administer the IELTS test, a collaboration with the Indonesia Australia Language Foundation (IALF) Bali.
This strategic step was marked by the implementation of a Training of Trainers (TOT) for Teaching IELTS Preparation from August 18–22, 2025, at the ULM UPA Language Building in Banjarmasin. Sixteen participants, consisting of ULM lecturers and UPA Language instructors, participated in intensive training with IALF Bali instructor Stephen Bolton.
The Head of ULM UPA Language, Dr. Hj. Noor Eka Chandra, M.Pd., emphasized that this training not only improves teaching competency but also prepares ULM to produce a generation of academics ready to compete on the global stage.
“The English language skills of lecturers are key to making it easier for students to obtain scholarships, internships, or further study abroad,” she said.
With this official license, starting next year, students and the public of South Kalimantan will be able to take the IELTS test directly on the ULM campus without having to travel outside the region. This not only simplifies access and reduces costs, but also enhances ULM’s credibility as an internationally recognized university.
Beyond simply administering the test, this IELTS license opens opportunities for global collaboration with universities in various countries. The ULM Language Center (UPA Bahasa) also provides an open IELTS training program for students, lecturers, and the general public, enabling the campus to serve as a language development center and an international gateway for the children of Banua.
“Having the IELTS test at ULM will undoubtedly strengthen the university’s position in the international network and open wider opportunities for students to continue their studies or pursue careers abroad,” added Noor Eka.
This achievement also reinforces ULM’s commitment to becoming a World-Class University, by preparing competent, competitive human resources who are ready to face global challenges.
