Impactful Community Service Program: ULM FPIK Students Present Coastal Children’s Class at Anggrek Kindergarten, Wiritasi Village
BATULICIN – Students participating in the Thematic Community Service Program (KKN) from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a Coastal Children’s Class at Anggrek Kindergarten, Wiritasi Village, Kusan Hilir District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, on Friday (August 1, 2025). The activity, themed “One Color, a Thousand Stories for Coastal Children,” was part of ULM’s community service program, which prioritizes an educational and humanistic approach in coastal areas.
The Head of Wiritasi Village, Abdul Razak, expressed his appreciation for the ULM students’ initiative in presenting creative and educational activities for the children.
“This is a positive activity for instilling basic knowledge from an early age. The children seemed enthusiastic, and the concept of learning through play is very suitable for them,” he said on Saturday (August 2, 2025).
Using a play-based learning concept, ULM students taught children how to mix colors using safe brushes and watercolors, while also introducing them to various types of fish through pictures they colored themselves. This method is a fun way to instill a love of marine resources from an early age.
A representative of the KKN students explained that this activity received full support from the Wiritasi Village Government, the principal, and the teachers of Anggrek Kindergarten.
“We want to leave a positive and beneficial impression on the children living along the coast. Hopefully, this simple activity will be a valuable experience for them,” he said.
In closing, the students presented doormats, handwashing stations, and hand soap to Anggrek Kindergarten, along with prizes for all participating children. This assistance is expected to support the cleanliness and health of the school environment.
The Coastal Children’s Class is a concrete example of ULM’s contribution to realizing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly community service, while strengthening the relationship between the campus and coastal communities. Through this activity, ULM is committed to developing a generation of young coastal residents who are creative, confident, and concerned about marine sustainability.
