Impactful Community Service Program: Students Encourage Sungai Cuka Residents to Maintain Clean Beaches and Oceans
BATULICIN — Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), through its Community Service Program (KKN) students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), demonstrated its commitment to coastal environmental preservation. On Friday morning (August 1, 2025), they held a beach cleanup and provided educational material on waste management along the coast of Sungai Cuka Village, Satui District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan.
The leader of the ULM FPIK KKN Team Group 15, Muhammad Hanif Ridho, explained that this activity was part of the KKN program, which focuses on environmental preservation.
“We want to have a positive impact on the community, especially in waste management and preserving the coast as a valuable natural asset,” he said.
This activity successfully collected several kilograms of waste, the majority of which was single-use plastic. During the educational session, the ULM KKN students also provided information on environmentally friendly waste management and the importance of reducing plastic use.
“We urge the public to always dispose of trash properly for the sake of better environmental sustainability,” added Muhammad Toriq Rizky Ariandra, one of the student community service (KKN) participants.
The activity received full support from residents and officials of Sungai Cuka Village. The atmosphere of mutual cooperation was palpable, with the community directly involved in cleaning the beach. This program also forms part of a collective movement to create a clean and trash-free environment, in line with the Clean Friday Action program launched by Tanah Bumbu Regent, Andi Rudi Latif.
When welcoming the ULM KKN students, Regent Andi Rudi Latif expressed his hope that they would bring innovation, new knowledge, and a spirit of sustainable empowerment to the village community.
Through the synergy between ULM students and the local community, it is hoped that awareness of the importance of maintaining clean beaches and oceans will continue to grow. This activity also serves as a concrete example of how active community and university involvement can bring significant environmental change.
