Impactful Community Service Program: ULM Students Organize Beach Cleanup in Wiritasi Village
BATULICIN — Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), through its Thematic Community Service Program (KKN) students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), collaborated with the Wiritasi Village Government, Kusan Hilir District, to hold a Friday Cleanup Action on the local coastline on Friday (July 25, 2025).
Themed “Love for the Beach Begins with Real Action,” the activity was led by the Head of the Wiritasi Village Community Service Group, Mujalipah, along with 10 other members. The collaborative action was attended by the Head of the Kusan Hilir District, Amirullah, S.Pd.I., M.AP., and involved members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) from the Military District Command (Koramil), the Kusan Hilir Police, and the village community.
Participants cleaned the beach area of various types of waste, from used plastic bags and beverage bottles to dead fish carried by the current. The residents’ enthusiasm was evident as they collaborated with students to collect and organize trash.
Abdul Razak, Head of Wiritasi Village, stated that this activity demonstrated the commitment of the younger generation, particularly ULM students, to preserving the coastal environment.
“This activity serves as an example that protecting the coast is a shared responsibility, not just the government’s,” he said on Saturday (August 2, 2025).
Meanwhile, Mujalipah explained that this beach cleanup focused not only on physical cleaning but also on raising public awareness of the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
“We hope the public will become more concerned about coastal conditions. Clean beaches are crucial for the sustainability of marine ecosystems and the lives of the surrounding community,” she said.
This action aligns with the instructions of Tanah Bumbu Regent Andi Rudi Latif, through the Clean Friday Action program, which encourages cross-stakeholder collaboration in maintaining cleanliness and improving the environmental quality in coastal areas.
