Bayu Andrean, a ULM FPIK Student, Wins Third Place in the National Bali Beach Exploration Competition
Banjarmasin – A student at Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) has once again achieved a proud achievement in a national competition. Bayu Andrean, a 2021 student from the Aquatic Resources Management Study Program, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, won third place in the 17th National Bali Beach Traversing Competition in 2025.
The competition, held by Mapala Bhuana Giri, Mahasaraswati University, Denpasar, Bali, took place on July 4–5, 2025, and attracted participants from various regions across Indonesia. The competition was not limited to nature lovers; it was a general competition, so the competition was also open to participants from various institutions, including the military.
To prepare for the competition, Bayu underwent intensive physical preparation for 1.5 months, including attending a training center where he practiced running while carrying sand. This preparation was crucial for navigating the challenging terrain along the race route.
“The competition was open to the public, and the toughest challenge for me was competing against participants from the Indonesian Army, who ultimately placed first and second. But I’m grateful I still managed to win third place,” said Bayu.
As an active member of the Mapala Piranha FPIK ULM, Bayu is no stranger to outdoor activities and the challenges of natural terrain. He also expressed his gratitude for being trusted to represent his organization and university after suffering an injury in the previous national competition.
“I’m proud that Mapala Piranha and ULM still give me the opportunity to participate in an event like this. Last year, I was injured in a trail running competition and fell midway through. But now I can prove myself again,” he recalled.
While not explicitly mentioning the type of support from the university, Bayu acknowledged that the support from the student organization and ULM was a major motivator for him in facing the competition. He also learned a lot during the preparation process, including managing funding, building a spirit of training, and expanding his network of relationships and friendships across regions.
Bayu’s achievement is proof that ULM students not only excel academically but are also capable of competing in physically and mentally challenging environments. ULM appreciates Bayu Andrean’s dedication and fighting spirit and hopes that this achievement will inspire other students to continue developing their potential in various fields.
