KPTN-KTI Finalizes Preparations for 2025–2027 Membership Meeting: Reaffirms Commitment to Advancing State Universities in Eastern Indonesia
Banjarbaru — The Eastern Indonesia State University Consortium (KPTN-KTI) held a technical preparation meeting for the 2025–2027 Membership Meeting on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Roditha Banjarbaru Hotel. The meeting was attended by leaders and representatives of state universities from eastern Indonesia, as an initial forum to discuss program sustainability, governance evaluation, and the strategic direction of KPTN-KTI going forward.
In his remarks, the Executive Director of KPTN-KTI, Dr. Andi Ilham Makhmud, M.M. (Hasanuddin University), highlighted the importance of renewing the consortium’s Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART) which were last revised in 2019. He emphasized that the organizational structure, including the position of the Advisory Council, needs to be reorganized to be more adaptive to current needs and developments.
“Today’s activity was actually scheduled last March, but due to budget efficiency, it could only be implemented now. The map we distributed contains the AD/ART that we need to discuss and update before the official member meeting in a few months,” he said.
Dr. Ilham also emphasized that KPTN-KTI, which was established in 1993, must reaffirm its goals, namely to promote equality and empowerment of higher education institutions in eastern Indonesia. He said that with 153 districts/cities within the KTI area, future administrators are expected to be able to synergize more strongly with the Ministry of Education to strengthen PTN and local communities.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the KPTN-KTI Presidium, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, S.E., M.Si. who is also the Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), conveyed the importance of this meeting as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between KTI PTNs in responding to global challenges.
“The gap between PTN in KTI and the western region is still quite large. However, we have started to catch up, especially in terms of research and accreditation,” he said.
Prof. Ahmad also highlighted the importance of strengthening quality assurance and international accreditation, as well as developing cooperation networks such as KUB (Kalimantan-Indonesia-Malaysia-Brunei) which is growing rapidly along with the development of the IKN. He said that KPTN-KTI must be able to manage lecturer expertise data based on regions and disciplines, so that research collaboration is easier to do across campuses and even across countries.
“We must not lose to the western region. Indonesia’s future is in the east, and KPTN-KTI must be ready to be the driving force,” he said.
The KPTN-KTI member meeting for the 2025-2027 period is scheduled to be held between August and September 2025, with the determination of the host still under discussion. The main agenda of the upcoming meeting includes:
- Revision and ratification of AD/ART
- Appointment of new management
- Strengthening quality assurance and accreditation programs
- Utilization of research networks and scientific data of lecturers
- Preparation of international and regional cooperation roadmap
This meeting is a real manifestation of KPTN-KTI’s consistency in strengthening the position of universities in the eastern region as a pillar of national development. By carrying the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, KPTN-KTI is expected to be able to bring significant positive changes to the world of higher education in Eastern Indonesia.
