Answering the Challenges of the 5.0 Era: ULM PGSD and Banjarmasin Education Office Collaborate to Create Quality Schools
Banjarmasin – The Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a National Education Seminar on Friday (6/20/2025). This activity was carried out in the Postgraduate Hall of Lambung Mangkurat University with the theme “Transformation of Learning and School Governance: Strategy to Create Excellent and Quality Schools in the Era of Society 5.0” by inviting Principals and Supervisory Teachers of Public Elementary Schools in Banjarmasin City.
This activity is a collaboration between the Banjarmasin City Education Office and the ULM PGSD Study Program as a form of real commitment in answering the challenges of the times, especially in the world of elementary school education with explanations from the speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Ahmad Suriansyah, M.Pd, Ph.D and Prof. Dr. Hj. Aslamiah, M.Pd, Ph.D as a Professor of FKIP ULM and H. Ahmad Baihaqi, S.Pd, M.Pd.
In this activity, the three speakers focused on discussing the transformation of learning which refers to fundamental changes in the way of teaching and learning, from the traditional teacher-centered model to a more holistic, flexible, and student-centered approach.
Learning in this era is required to utilize digital technology, prioritize collaboration, and instill character values and 21st century life skills. The learning process must reflect social realities and global challenges, no longer limited to the classroom.
However, quality learning will not be optimal without effective school governance. Governance includes how schools are organized, managed, and directed to achieve their educational goals.
Governance transformation means encouraging visionary leadership, a healthy organizational culture, involvement of all parties (teachers, students, parents, and the community), and the use of data for appropriate decision making. Excellent schools are born from a system that prioritizes transparency, accountability, and sustainable innovation.
Both aspects, learning transformation and school governance must be designed as an integrated strategy to answer the demands of the Era of Society 5.0. This era is a phase of social development that emphasizes the combination of advanced technology and human values.
In the context of education, this era challenges schools to not only produce graduates who are academically intelligent, but also have empathy, flexibility, and solutions to social problems.
The Coordinator of the PGSD Study Program, Dr. Norhapizah, S.T., M.Pd., appreciated this activity and had high hopes for the participants to be able to provide greater development and change in the world of elementary education.
“Let’s use this momentum to build new awareness, broaden perspectives and strengthen networks towards a basic education system that is more capable of growing and progressing,” said Dr. Norhapizah.
