Building an Inclusive Society: ULM Psychology Anniversary Focuses on Empathy and Action
Banjarbaru – In order to commemorate its 17th anniversary, the Psychology Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) held a series of Anniversary activities that were full of humanitarian meaning. Carrying the theme “Collaboration and Action for Resilient Empathy”, this event was not only a celebration, but also a space for reflection and learning about the importance of empathy and collaboration in social life.
One of the main activities that was in the spotlight was an inclusive seminar with deaf friends, which was held ahead of the peak of the celebration on May 31, 2025 at the FKIK ULM Hall, Banjarbaru. This seminar is a real manifestation of the ULM Psychology Study Program’s commitment to responding to modern social phenomena, especially the lack of empathy that is often seen in digital spaces such as social media TikTok and Instagram. Participants were invited to understand how collaboration with vulnerable groups can strengthen humanitarian values and build a more inclusive society.
“This seminar is expected to broaden the horizons of students and participants that empathy is not just discourse, but must be realized in real actions. We want to form a young generation that is tough and cares about others,” said the organizing committee from the ULM Psychology Student Association (HIMA).
The series of the 17th Anniversary of the ULM Psychology Study Program is divided into three main parts: the opening on May 4, 2025 at the ULM FKIK Basketball Court, then continued with the middle activities that took place from May 4-27, 2025 at the FKIK Psychology Study Program Building, and closed with the peak of the event on May 31. In addition to the seminar, a student and academic product bazaar was also held which added to the excitement of the event, although it was not the main focus of the celebration.
This activity received a positive response from various parties. Muhammad Arsy Alhafidz Revianto, one of the representatives of the committee and students, expressed his appreciation to the entire team, especially Laskar Nawasena, who had made this activity a success.
“Thank you to all the committee members who have worked hard. Hopefully, ULM Psychology will continue to advance and produce superior and highly empathetic students,” he said.
In addition to commemorating the anniversary, this activity is also intended to improve the quality of students and participants through competitions, discussions, and training inserted during the series of events. It is hoped that the momentum of this Dies Natalis will not only leave a deep impression, but also encourage the birth of competitive students, with a spirit of sportsmanship, and care about today’s social challenges.
With a collaborative spirit and real action, Lambung Mangkurat University confirms its position as a higher education institution that is not only academically superior, but also encourages strong humanitarian values amidst the challenges of the digital era.
