Jakarta – Lambung Mangkurat University(ULM) and the Ministry of Environment (KLH)/Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in an effort to strengthen the implementation of environmental programs in South Kalimantan Province. The signing took place at the KLH/BPLH Office in Jakarta, on Thursday (13/2/2025), which was carried out directly by the Minister of KLH/BPLH, Hanif Faishol Nurofiq, and the Rector of ULM, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Alim Bachri, SE., MSi.

This Memorandum of Understanding aims to support environmental programs in South Kalimantan, which is an area with a large wetland ecosystem and is vulnerable to environmental degradation. The scope of this collaboration includes education and teaching in the field of environment, research and development of science, socialization and community service, increasing human resource capacity, and sharing data and information in accordance with applicable regulations.

Through the signing of this MoU, ULM seeks to realize collaboration between academics and the government in maintaining environmental sustainability. This is because education and research have an important role in supporting scientifically based environmental policies. Therefore, ULM is expected to become a strategic partner in the implementation of environmental programs in South Kalimantan.

South Kalimantan faces various environmental challenges, such as deforestation, water pollution, and wetland degradation. With this collaboration, ULM and KLH/BPLH can strengthen academic studies and the implementation of research-based policies in addressing these environmental problems.

In addition, this collaboration also supports the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Program, which provides students with the opportunity to be directly involved in environmental programs, either through research, internships, or community service activities.

The signing of this MoU is an important milestone in strengthening the synergy between academics and the government in the environmental sector. With this collaboration, it is hoped that environmental programs in South Kalimantan can run more effectively and sustainably, and provide benefits to the wider community and the existing ecosystem.
