ULM’s Position in Edurank Rises to 31st

Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) remains the best university in South Kalimantan based on the EduRank 2024 ranking. Despite a drop in accreditation from “Excellent” to “Good,” ULM still ranks 31st nationally and 2196th globally.

EduRank, a ranking agency based in the United States, evaluates universities based on teaching quality, research, academic reputation, and alumni impact. In its analysis, ULM is in the top 50 percent in 45 research topics and is the only university in South Kalimantan to be in the top 80 best universities in Indonesia.

The drop in ULM’s accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) was due to findings of violations in the submission of professorships. Based on BAN-PT Decree number 1972/SK/BAN-PT/MONEV/PT/X/2024, ULM was given until November 19, 2024, to submit for reaccreditation.

ULM Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Iwan Alfanie, stated that the reaccreditation documents were sent on November 15, 2024. “The documents we sent are complete, more than 300 pages. We are optimistic that the accreditation will return to Excellent,” he said on Thursday (23/1/2025).

However, BAN-PT has not yet set a schedule for field assessment to evaluate the documents.

“We are still waiting for notification from BAN-PT regarding the assessor team that will come,” added Iwan.

On the other hand, this drop in accreditation does not diminish international recognition of ULM. EduRank notes that the university has produced 11,614 academic publications with 10,274 citations and has two alumni with significant impact.

As a strategic step, ULM has formed the Higher Education Institution Accreditation Acceleration Team (AIPT) to expedite the recovery of its accreditation status.

“We are committed to restoring the accreditation to an A rating as a form of responsibility to the academic community and the people of South Kalimantan,” emphasized Iwan.
