Pelaihari – Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) together with the South Kalimantan Police, the Regional National Intelligence Agency (BINDA), and PT Antang Gunung Meratus (AGM) are synergizing in an effort to improve food security in South Kalimantan. Following up on the previously agreed cooperation, on Wednesday (8/1/2025) an activity was carried out to plant forage grass and review the land at Puspitek Agripeka Faperta ULM, Tanah Laut.

This activity involved a number of important figures, including ULM Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmad, S.E., M.Sc., South Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan, Head of BINDA Brigadier General Nurullah, S.H., M.H., and representatives of PT AGM. In addition, Bhayangkari Polda Kalsel and Dharma Wanita also took part in the action on a 4-hectare land.

Four types of forage grass—odot, pakchong, nepal, and raja—were planted to support the plan to fatten 150 cattle on the land. In addition to the livestock sector, this synergy also includes rice and corn cultivation on other large areas of land owned by ULM.

The ULM Rector emphasized the importance of support from all parties in realizing the food security and student welfare program.

“ULM is obliged to participate in supporting government programs, one of which is food security. We need support from the Regional Police Chief, BINDA, the Regional Government, and the City Government in South Kalimantan to achieve our goal of becoming a university with an animal health study program in Kalimantan,” said Prof. Ahmad.

In addition, the Rector explained that ULM aspires to create income generating from plantation management, including 5 hectares of rubber land, 8 hectares of oil palm, and 4 hectares of forage grass.

“Hopefully, from these results we can help underprivileged students to be able to study with a UKT of 0 rupiah,” he added.

The South Kalimantan Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration for the sustainability of livestock.

“We hope that ULM can produce superior workers in the fields of animal husbandry and animal health,” he said.

This collaboration also strengthens ULM’s strategic partnership with PT AGM in developing the cattle farming sector, while supporting food security in South Kalimantan.

With a total land area of 24 hectares, ULM continues to be committed to developing a sustainable food security program, in line with the goal of increasing livestock productivity and supporting student welfare. This program is expected to be a real step towards inclusive food security and education in South Kalimantan.
