Banjarbaru – Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) through the Wasaka Team of the Faculty of Engineering has created an environmentally friendly electric car called “Enggang,” which has successfully attracted the attention of the Chief of Police of South Kalimantan, Inspector General of Police Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan. The Chief of Police of South Kalimantan had the opportunity to try out this car directly at the South Kalimantan Police Headquarters on Monday (12/23/2024).

In the trial session, he drove the Enggang around the office complex accompanied by the students who made it.

“This vehicle is very comfortable and is equivalent to an imported golf car. An extraordinary work from ULM,” said Inspector General Rosyanto.

The Enggang electric car is designed in two variants, namely the offroad type with a capacity of six passengers and the golf type that can accommodate eight passengers. This vehicle is driven by a battery-based electric motor (BEV), has a maximum speed of 40 km/hour, with a battery life of up to three hours, and a recharging time of four to six hours.

Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Engineering ULM, Prof. Abdul Ghofur, explained that Enggang was designed not only for exhibitions but also as an environmentally friendly operational solution.

“We are opening up opportunities for collaboration with agencies or companies interested in producing this vehicle. In one month, we are able to produce up to two units,” said Prof. Ghofur.

The Enggang manufacturing team consists of lecturers, technicians, and students of the ULM Mechanical Engineering Study Program, including Akhmad Syarief as a lecturer, and five students, namely Ali Ahmad Abdul Gafar, Egryanto Stepanus, Hanifudin, Muhammad Amin, and Muhammad Arsyat.

The South Kalimantan Police Chief hopes that this innovation can be used for operations in various sectors, including offices, hotels, resorts, and industrial areas.

“This car has great potential to be an environmentally friendly vehicle option that supports daily operations,” added the Police Chief.

With this innovation, ULM confirms its position as a university that not only contributes to education, but also in creating sustainable solutions for the needs of the community. The Enggang electric car is expected to be one of ULM’s steps in supporting the development of green technology in Indonesia.
